Team Balancing. Client-scriptable? Server-enforcable?
I always choose "Auto-assign" when joining the server, and I always switch when some-one says "Teams" and I find myself on the stacked team. I try to check after each round, but sometime I zone-out and don't notice. BTW- thanks admins for reminding me.
Is there a way to write a script that will:
Say "Balancing team..."
bring up the team switch menu
choose auto-assign
and pick my favorite class
so that I can just hit a single key and switch to the other team.
Yes, I am THAT lazy.
Also, this weekend I found myself on the losing end of an unbalanced server. Twice the teams were stacked 11-7 and the players on the stacked team refused to balance even after repeated requests for our team. Instead, they took the opportunity to spawn camp. Unfortunately, there was no admin on duty. I ended up leaving the server in disgust.
Is it possible to have the server automatically balance the teams by randomly selecting players from the stacked teams once A) the imbalance passes a threshold and B) the imbalance exists for X amount of time?
If this is possible, would the admins be willing to run the plugin?
I understand that it would be preferable that this would not be nessesary and that most of the time there IS an admin there to fix the imbalance. This would simply fill in the blanks where abuses sometimes occur.

i never understood why CS has auto balance/join caps but DoD doesn't...

Unfortunately, i don't think there is an autobalance for DOD. We would have to wait for a plugin to be developed...or for valve to get off their ass (though i doubt the will).

How about a client-script? Anyone with 1337 skizzels know how to script a quicky team flipper?
I know very little about scripting (the only script I've ever written and used was for an "auto-grapple" in Op4CTF) and so I need so help getting the particulars down on this. Really, if you know how to choose menu items with a script, that would probably get me going.

wrong. we do have team-size limits, where if one team has 2 or more players than the other, no one else can join it.
try it.
the problem is, there is no autobalance feature, meaning if it's 10 on 10, and the allies have 4 players disconnect......now it's 6 on 10.
Autobalance is supposed to switch players in between rounds.....but rounds last for like 10-20 minutes sometimes. If the round ends, and there is such a difference....the server will balance the teams, just like in CS.
But by then.....the teams will be balanced by players themselves, or by admins.
However, in that 6-10 period of team imbalance.........no one will be able to join the 10 man side. I guarantee it.
