    DoD:S is a flaming pile of horse shit... the only thing i have ever liked about it is the objective teamplay..

    so.. as far as I'm concerned..

    this update is the most awesomest kick-n-ass thing to ever happen to DoD:S

    The bad news? I've seen the same bugs that Heavy mentioned and maybe a couple more. I feel that somehow the dev guys may have rushed through some of this. Weapon jitter? Model misalignment during iron sight animation? Super slow crouch movement, rocket shouldered, iron sighted, scoped on some servers? bad frame rates reported all over? Yes, and ick. But those are typical beta problems.

    On the weapon front, I have to agree with prock. DoD:S weapons are garbage and as much as I hate to say it (and several of you will be "omg, what are you talking about!"), CAL determined that and fixed it a long time ago.

    Mastery? yeah, I'd have to say...
    MAYBE 5 in a 100 players actually master the Garand (FTR, I am not a Garand master),
    15 in a 100 the K98,
    40 in a 100 the supports,
    9 out of 10 campers love the assaults (lolz),
    50 in a 100 the snipers,
    MGs/rockets bleh.

    Is that a working game? Not to me. Broken... saved only by the teamplay aspect.

    The good? This biyatch supports multi-cores. Low frames rates? Bah, chump. Before adjusting and running without HDR because it sucks the life out of me, my settings were at 1680x1050 and all else at recommended (high). At that, I didn't have any frame rates under 40 and on average it was about the same as regular DoD. After adjusting though, frame rates where 120 to 250 (of course, anything over 60 can be argued as a waste). Check these commands:

    host_thread_mode (I've tried 1 and 2... with similar results)
    mat_queue_mode (I've tried 2)

    And these 2 (not really sure what they do but a few people are talking about them):
    r_threaded_renderables
    r_threaded_particles

    The Weapon good? The Garand needed the most work and so far it has it. Good COF and almost no recoil. VERY NICE. Supports and Assaults seem to be center weighted and DEADLY. We should really think about generalized weapon restrictions. Rockets feel about the same but they took away the dual movement speed. Plus/minus of that dunno.

    All in all, the direction I see this going in is probably what DoD:S should have been in the first place.

    I did play it alitttle bit lastnight with monkey until we got kicked out of the server lol.. :5 One thing i noticed which kinda sucked was the weapon scroll feature. like TF2 you have to scroll through the weapon menu and click the weapon you wish to use instead of just cycling through the available weapons you carry. I also did notice with the nades sometimes having to click two or more times to prime them.

    Hmmm i just tried it and didn't like it, and, Pistols are spining-accurate :S
    I felt the kar different :S i couldnt shoot sh1t, and i was extremely pwned by assaults.

    I love the achivements system.

    Bullet you can turn that off in the options

    Now i don't agree with you at all that this game is "DoD:S is a flaming pile of horse shit..." If that were true we would have no player base what so ever... But the only thing i can recommend for the other people who are worried about the update is to go to the steam forums that monkey posted and start telling them about all the bugs and what you would like to see in the update. Then just hope there are other people out there who agree with you.

    oh lol...i guess i missed that when i had to re-set all my control keys and hugh ass cross hairs lol... I did however try some of the weapons to see if there how much different they felt. I didn't get to play to long so i will still have to test the rest of the weaponary out. lol :9

    Not precisely true... every time I play the Garand I'm like "why the fuck do I keep playing this GD game?" And that's generally how I feel whether I'm dominating or not. It's always like "how the fuck did all but one of those shots miss? Even while every GD one was center mass..." (I'm not angry now... the GDs are appropriate in the heat of the moment though... and I'm talking the neighbors are like "wtf?")

    Grrrrr, frustrating (for those keeping track of why, it's that the weapon has to settle longer than the k98 before firing even when you're dead still -- not much, but enough to be frustrating).

    What keeps me and some others coming back is the teamplay aspect. Lose that and the game is dead.

    Answer me this Kyle, why do you NEVER play the rifle? why are you almost always assault or support? Why is it that only about 4 TTP regulars are able to use rifles effectively? Why is the k98 soooo much easier to use than the Garand? Why are headshots from a assault so frustrating to a rifleman? In all cases I bet your answers boil down to... broken weapon models.

    monkey and i did something intresting with that feature, we stayed at the very precise same spot, and shot at people coming, and well, it was like 2 bullets firing, now imagine
    2 mgs in the very same position, firing like 1 million bullets per sec.

    well, i just hopped on for about an hour, and i can say, with complete and utter certainty...

    that i fucking despise this 'update'. the addition of a lot of the superfluous bullshit from TF2 that pissed me off, such as the "dominating/revenge" idiocy, the freeze-frame death cam, the inability to change your name without exiting the damn game, the shitty-looking scoreboard, achievements, and announcing said achievements in-game... it detracts from the game.

    and that's not even starting on the gameplay changes.

    the improved accuracy for the assault guns simply makes me hate that class even more. the garand has been, for a lack of a better phrase, dumbed down. the rocket launcher has been made even more difficult to use... as you're no longer just "slow", but now "near-fucking-immobile", and your mouse sensitivity gets nearly doubled, instead of halved, making it a bitch to have any sort of accuracy. now you can barely move when you crouch. the smoke contrails from the grendades seem to stay longer, and the grenades themselves seem more bouncy.

    and, perhaps the biggest grievance, the magical teammate no-clip, thus removing the ability to player-stack. even though that doesn't come into play often... when it does, it's a game-winner. that, and it's always been a good way to pass the time when priming, trying to see where you can get to.

    this update can fuck miles of off.
