Re: Blacksmith?
Just started playing around with it. Seems like theres a bunch of cool stuff you can craft when your low level (single digit) and again when in the 20's, but in between the pickings seem kinda slim. I hit up the auction house last night instead and got some sweet rare gear.

It's great early on (pre-10), but after that, most of the time, I'm looking for specific gear, so I look for deals in the auction house. That way, I get exactly what I want.
Now, if you're able to find the rare recipes...then it will really fucking rock not to mention turn into chachingchaching.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Re: Blacksmith?
As a WoW player for almost a decade, taking the time to learn your professions while you level is important. Professions will cost you credit as you level but you will often gain something in return while you level either gear for you, gear for the auction house, and/or reagents that other professions need which can be sold as well. In the end game having a profession is important because you will be able to craft rare patterns that may put you above the competition.
I don't play diablo or guild wars but they are both based off of a similar game framework where having the professions and working the auction house can make you a player to be reckon with on your server.

There aren't really professions though. There's no sure fire way known as of yet on getting the rare recipe drops. There are also no skills for crafting. You just pay to upgrade your artisans.
TBH, it's far easier to get rares and legendaries through drops assuming you've got a high enough magic drop% (I like to keep mine around 40%). Then, you take the ones with useful stats and sell those in the auction house.enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

Re: Blacksmith?
The thing to know about leveling up the blacksmith/jeweler that hasn't been brought up in this topic is once you hit a certain level with them you need to have pages of blacksmithing/jeweling to upgrade anymore and those drop on nightmare or higher. Also once you upgrade to that point you also have some recipes that need those pages to be made.
Personally I totally think upgrading blacksmith is worth it, but even if you don't upgrading Jeweler is required, if you don't you are hamstringing yourself.

Well, you can just buy them from the auction house. They aren't too expensive...I mean...there's totally better uses for gold, but...
