Inferno farming idea
4 people who are equiped to handle it
2 tanks, 2 ranged or possibly 1 tank and 3 ranged
1 ranged goes purely magic finding (or gold if you prefer), rest defend/kill
Share the loot (not sure how you'd fairly divide stuff up though...

I disagree. It depends on your party's gear level and where you are farming. It's a matter of clear time vs drop chance. If you are geared enough to clear act 3 bosses on the first try consistently and quickly solo then you should do that, but if you are moderately low geared then teaming up with people for Butcher runs where everyone agrees on a set mf beforehand will be much quicker/easier in the short term. The group I run with has 200-225% mf pre-stacks and can clear a Butcher run in less than 30 minutes if we don't mess around. My friend duo's Spiderchick / Azmodan in about 45. He gets a better chance at iLvL63 items, but i can clear a boss and a sub boss half again as fast as he can, which adds up if you are constantly running.
You have to find a method you're comfortable with and stick to it until you can move up. Nothing will change that.
Edit: An aside on follower mf/gf. You only get 10% of their mf/gf if you kill it, but their full mf/gf + yours if they kill it. This works as of last patch. Just 2c to think about if you solo mostly.Last edited by RudeMood; 07-04-12 at 01:03 PM.

Re: Inferno farming idea
Monsters increase health by 100% for each player that joins. You get exactly the same drop you would get solo as with a group. If everyone has exactly the same dps, you will kill stuff at the exact same rate solo or in that group, but you have to wait more for everyone to be ready to progress, for everyone to join the next game as you make them, for everyone to sell stuff in town... and overall as you kill elites as you only get loot for stuff you are within range for.
My character, for example, does 95k dps right now. Anyone I party with will likely slow me down for that fact alone.
So the choice is... either sacrifice the bonus 20% magic find you get from your follower (which you can just stack MF on every slot since he/she doesn't matter anyways) or party together, lose that bonus magic find and take longer to clear areas.
If you are not geared enough to do inferno and require a tank/dps combo to clear act 1, then I see a need for grouping. Otherwise, you are just slowing yourself down.
I don't like it and I much prefer to party up, but that is how it is. If you can clear butcher with your really high magic find set in 30 mins in a group, imagine how fast you could do it solo.Last edited by QuickLightning; 07-04-12 at 01:43 PM.

The devs are actually thinking of a nerf for gear switching for the MF. They have a lot of ideas, most of which seem pretty crappy.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.

Party MF can be better in the sense that there will be a better chance for you to get gear for yourself or others and help eachother out. But yes, it will be slower.

I hear where you're coming from Quick, and I think we are on the same page point wise, but from opposite ends. I sit between 10-17k damage on the stat page. My effective dps is much higher due to my build, but my gear focus leans towards survivability (as most melee classes do.) It CAN take me longer to clear a Butcher run solo that I can duo/trio, but ONLY if I get into elites that are tough for me. This is what it comes down to, regardless of class. With a partner the run times smooth out much better because I can damage soak while the ranged class melts stuff. If i'm on my game I have very little chance of dying bar some very bad luck. Could the Wiz/DH/WD run this content solo as fast or faster? Maybe if they didn't run into packs that were a disadvantage to them. So, by partnering up, we keep around the same (or slightly quicker usually) run times, but have a better chance of not having to pay out the arse for repairs. Thus we increase our effective farm for little effort, and get to smack talk or shoot the bull to pass the time as we go along.
This is how I feel about it. YMMV
Ninjaedit again: I forgot to mention that my regular group shares upgrades like the OP wanted. This gives us incentive to keep running together. It's all RNG anyways, but with more people working towards bettering their group mates the upgrades show up more often. You have to trust your group though. It helps I can walk a couple computers over at the LAN center and bitchslap some one if needbe.Last edited by RudeMood; 07-04-12 at 06:03 PM.
