Is a payment processing site. They do micro-transaction payments for many of the online MMORPGs. If you have bought gold in game for world of tanks for example it likely went through PlaySpan.

Many of the MMORG companies have posted updates saying that customer information wasn't shared with PlaySpan during transactions so user name and passwords weren't at risk. There is an update posted at the link in the original post.

According to that, EVE and GW-related things are "safe."

However, as has been noted, WoT is at risk so change your credentials. As are Turbine DDO games according to this

Isn't RWT (Real-World Trading - Trade cash for in game items/etc) illegal/against the rules, or am I mistaken?

You can buy Gold/isk/whatever currency with real world money, assuming you buy it from approved vendors, you just can't sell in game items for real money. At least that is the case in most games.

mm Correct me if I'm wrong, but with games like RuneScape (One of which was listed on the PlaySpan-was-hacked story link) and World of Warcraft, RWT in general is against the games' rules.

That may be so - but some games support/endorse the selling of game time for RL currencies or have in game marketplaces (DIII RMAH "Real Money Auction House") where virtual items can be bought with RL currencies or credits from certain vendors.

So while EVE and GW1/2 are clear, others may not be so clear (WoT, Turbine's DDO) and perhaps others as they partnered with Playspan to handle the financial backend of those transactions perhaps.
