Total War Thread
Anyone a fan of this series? One of my favorites. Combined my love of history with some good strategic gameplay. Also it really fun to create your own alternative histories and stories based on the your epic endeavors and conquests.
I'm very excited for Rome 2, if not worried a bit. There are over 117 factions(most of them are going to be small tribes) 180 territories, and over 500 units. But there is only going to be 8 playable factions, Rome, Carthage, Arverni(Gauls), Iceni(Britons), Suebi(Germans), Parthia, and Ptolemaic Egypt.
Worried that CA will nickel and dime the game to death with DLC. But hopefully mod tools and free faction pacts will be released. Probably will buy it either way, this is my most anticipated game of 2013.Last edited by PvtPrivate; 03-30-13 at 05:25 PM.

I've played every game in the series and I love them all to death. Rome and Medieval 2 were my favorites. A absolutely cannot wait for Rome 2, and I agree with what you were saying about DLC. I guess I could live with only 8 playable factions, though I really would love to play some of the smaller ones.

Re: Total War Thread
Ya, I prefer med 2 and Rome. When I first got empire it could barely run on my rig and it was a mess. I'll probably try again with darthmod sometime before Rome II. I skipped Napoleon and couldn't get that much into shogun II either. Despite it looking beautiful, it just seems so meh, do I want to play Japanese clan with slightly better bowmen or the Japanese clan with slightly better Calvary? Although Fall of the Samurai looks cool and i'll probably try that too.

Re: Total War Thread
Very big fan of the Total War series. While Rome was one of my favorite of them, the newer ones all have something to offer as well. Starting with Empire there was a larger amount of unit variety, while Napoleon and Shogun 2 had what I believe is a better resupply feature than had been used previously (instead of buying reinforcements, units slowly resupplied back up to their max sizes while in friendly territory).
Looking forward to seeing what they do with Rome 2. Even only having 8 factions to choose from isn't really a bummer for me. Hell, in Rom 1 you only had 3, till you managed to unlock some of the other factions (or cheated to get them).

Oh my God that looked absolutely gorgeous. I love everything from the terrain to the units to the new camera. The short little cutaway cinematic moments were OK but I imagine they can get intrusive after a while, though they probably only put those in the historical battles and not the imperial campaign. (Assuming the game modes are the same).
Can't stinking wait for this game. This might take one of the top spots in my favorite games of all time, I can see hundreds of hours going down the drain when this game comes out.

Re: Total War Thread
First DLC faction announced. It's going to be a free download. I hope most DLC will be like this.
Total War: Rome II - Pontus Faction - Total War Wiki
“Ambition, Independence, Profit”
A mountainous region bordering the Black Sea, Pontus contains many fertile river valleys and ports upon which its largely agricultural and trade economy is based. This geography and location also dictate a military focus on infantry and warships. However, a mixture of Greek and Persian influences ensures the forces of Pontus are both advanced and reliable. Their bronze-shield pikemen represent a formidable military backbone, and their swift, deadly scythed chariots are rightly feared.
Its prized commodities, and the opportunism of its well-informed rulers, have enabled Pontus to remain one of the strongest Hellenistic states in existence. With connections throughout the ancient world, largely due to control of Black Sea trade and exports of timber, precious metals and valuable steel, Pontic agents are perfectly placed to gather information on their enemies abroad.
Originally of Persian origin and part of the former satrapy of Cappadocia, Pontus became a client state under Antigonus in 333 BC, after Alexander swept Darius' empire away. Essentially, Pontus is now a collection of Greek colonies, ruled by a re-emergent Persian dynasty. In 302 BC, under Mithridates Ktistes (‘The Founder’), it split from the Macedonian empire during the turmoil of the Wars of the Successors. Having successfully repulsed an invasion by Ptolemy of Egypt, Pontus is now poised to expand across Asia Minor, on into mainland Greece and beyond.
A progressive kingdom, Pontus enjoys healthy diplomatic dialogue with Greek states and successor kingdoms, and is noted for its resolution in battle, particularly against barbarian forces. However, the forsaking of its Persian origins means that eastern cultural influences within its provinces yield diminished public order benefits.Last edited by PvtPrivate; 04-27-13 at 06:56 PM.
