EA Sports will stop producing college football game - ESPN
While current NCAA players fight for their right to make money, a large group of former college football players scored a major victory Thursday.

Shortly after Electronic Arts announced it would stop producing a college football game beginning next year, the video game company -- together with Collegiate Licensing Company, which holds the licensing rights to the trademarks of the majority of colleges and universities -- filed papers to the U.S. District Court in Northern California that it had settled its case brought by former players.
It does strike of sitting the dummy out of the pram a bit on EA's part. Though in fairness to them, it likely would be fairly difficult to sell a Pro Evo style (In which it's all fictionalized to get around not having licenses) and make any money, though also would think EA could probably find a way to make it work within the current rules and not just have to kill the entire game. Just it seems it would be easy to do something simple as keep the money in a fund to pay out to players once they leave school, thus it doesn't break NCAA laws and the players aren't totally getting the shaft.

None the less it is a bit of a shame to see the franchise go, as it (like the College Hoops games) was fun, even with the flaws of well about everything EA Sports does. I did like they keep with traditional EA double-talk (And or lying) in they will support the current game still, we are reassigning everyone who worked on it. Maybe I'm not educated enough on video game programming, but how do you support a game with no-one working on it?
