Map Thread
I'm a map nerd by trade. No really. I make maps for a living with computers (called Geographic Information Systems or GIS). I've also been a huge gamer for 20+ years. Modern games with large maps are wonderful IMHO. Since I've started with Rust there have been a handful of static and interactive rust maps I've found very useful. Until in-game maps that-is
Post your best map links in this thread!
My list so far:
- NewMap from Rust Wiki - The one that started it all. While we can (and will) argue over the names, this map laid a lot of the basic geography for newbies in the early weeks of Rust alpha.
- Newbie_Navigation from Rust Wiki (version 2.2) - The same classic map with the addition of useful screenshots of prominent landmarks. This is a great map to send a real noob.
- Brandy 92 Orthophoto from Rust Wiki - A well stitched overview of the whole map at fairly high resolution (1914x1075). Great for terrain details.
- Rust Map Marks - One of the earliest interactive maps I found. Not sure if still under development but features include: text, point, line, and polygon annotation. Login to create and edit your map, share a unique URL with trusted friends for a private map. They also have a 'locator' version.
- RustMap.net - Probably the most widely used map. Interactive with labels, screenshots, and 'locator' functionality. When you type /location on a Rust++ enabled server (like ours), this is probably where you go to type the X and Z coordinates.
- RustNuts Heatmap - These guys are up to some cool stuff. Not only to they have an autolocation plugin (server-side) which enables you to pull up a browser window telling you exactly where you are, but they've also turned the data into this very cool (and useful) 'heatmap' which shows player activity. If you click on one new map on this list, try this one
