THere are a few other projects, but they are also a long ways off.

There are a lot of steps in STEP that will help regardless of installed mods. They will enable better vsync, being able to use more memory, bug fixes, etc. There is also a guide on "cleaning" the main skyrim files, which is necessary to avoid loads of crashes/conflicts.

Also, instead of Nexus Mod Manager or Steam (do NOT use the steam workshop), use Mod Organizer. It makes it so each mod is separate allowing for you to try out mods without having to manually undo changes or redownload core files.
Yeah, it doesn't change the actual story of the main game, White is right about that.

It's more of it's own self contained story, with it's own map.

And also, Skywind is now open to everyone. It's got no quests or anything, the NPCs are all weird and stuff, there's lots of missing things, but if you just want to see what Morrowind looks like with Skyrim graphics, the whole map is there.

Really, I suggest Nexus Mod Manager. I've never used the one that White is talking about. But, regardless, I really suggest you use some kind of Mod Manager for installing mods.

Tried to edit, but it wouldn't let me.

I use Nexus Mod Manager because I watched Gophers videos on Youtube on how to use it. Whites could be better then mine, but I wouldn't know.

Here's whites Mod Organizer. Does seem to have a nice Wiki for you to read if you don't feel like watching videos.

Mod Organizer at Skyrim Nexus - mods and community?

Reading through it's features I actually think this would be better for you to use. Nexus Mod Manager is more for those who want to mod their games with hundreds of mods (Like me). you just want a few, and this one works better for that.

Mod Organizer is actually better when you run loads of mods. It detects conflicts, shows what conflicts, and allows you to choose what mod overwrites other mods. It made the ~170 mods I had installed a breeze. If one wasn't working, then I could just deactivate and not have to go in and replace files manually. If for some reason, you use mods that can't use the segregated file structure, than it allows you to combine mods quite painlessly.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P

I don't know when the last time you used NMM, but it does that now too.

NMM detects conflicts, and allows you to choose which mod you want to use. And it also allows for easy deactivation of mods without having to reinstall any files.

I think they're both good, but I use CBBE myself.
