Re: Alien: Isolation is good? ...maybe?
First impression, dam this looks good. Right down to the mop marks on the linoleum. The visuals and atmosphere scream ALIEN. The original Alien. I like the limited HUD and the crafting system works good in my opinion. I won't spoil anything but it adds a particle element of balancing need and gambling you'll find what you need. Be it the item spawns or your even able to get to the area. *If you play you will figure that part out.
Game mechanics seem clunky if you compare them to a titles such as BF4. But I think it was designed in a specific manor to reduce the feel of a video game and boost the feel of... well an interactive Alien sequel. There's a mix of FPS, survival, and puzzle solving. It all fits very well so far. The puzzles are timed and you only get a few attempts. I don't know what happens if you fail one yet. But when your hit with your first one you scramble saying oh fuck oh fuck, what do I do, eh oh eh aw d'oh. AH!
It's not without it's flaws, there are moments that will have you wanting to pull your hair out because you just get figure out all the variables to accomplish your goal. And it is a game so you will break the realism with a few practice runs, saying fuck danger I need to know what's over here, I'll just respawn later. Seems the devs tried to subdue this with some spaced out save points but they aren't unbearably far apart. There are moments your scramble to activate something are switch for something in a hurry, only to fumble about and get yourself killed. There's a foe I'm facing right now that won't seem to die but also doesn't seem to bright or very fast.
At this point, I'm giving it a 7.5/10. I'm only 3 hours in and the game could fall flat on it's face, or it could be incredible. Who knows!?! What I can say is I've enjoyed what I've played so far. This is a specific type of game, your playing a role, and I feel the game mechanics, atmosphere, visuals, and story all work very well together.Kill8ox liked this postDispatch the DooM

Re: Alien: Isolation is good? ...maybe?
10 hours in, I'm finding the game rather challenging. There are scripted moments but the don't play out the same. Where enemies spawn, what their doing. And the Alien, the Devs nailed the concept. There's little horror knowing a foe follows a set path. It's wildly unpredictable. After your first encounter you'll be begging to go up against humans instead. I've died dozens of times. Each run through requires you to adapt to the moment, not set routine to escape. You'll find yourself hiding in a locker just so you can look at your map and figure out a possible escape route give where the Alien is now.
*************************Only a spoiler if you don't know there is an Alien and its trying to kill you. Other then that kept it vague*********************
My first encounter I made a run for it hearing something in the vents near by. Ran down the stairs right into him. Try this again, go slow, walk under a vent before I get to the stairs, guess whos hiding in the ceiling this time. Okay, go slow, avoid the vents, rewire some electrical boxes and trigger a loud speaker. Hmm sounds like he is close, I know I'll throw a jerry rigged speak into the next room, hide in the air shaft as it goes by and hit the emergency over ride behind him. Huff, hop, squeeze into the air shaft, gee guess who I just back into. It will follow you, it will hunt you, you will die, and die, and die until you start playing smarter, adapting, improvising, and a butt load of luck.
I feel there is going to be a high replay value to this one. You may know your way around, but you won't know what's around.
Must have for Alien fans.Dispatch the DooM

429 Slow down
Overall Metacritic is highly favorable. Screw IGN and their bought out nonsense. I guess they tried to keep the Alien: Isolation Devs from hitting their bonuses... but too bad, fuckers!

I'm four days in and still enjoying it. I haven't finished the game yet and each level raises the bar. The game continues to challenge and thrill. And the FUCKING ALIEN IS LEARNING MY TRICKS!
The DLC appears to be rather short. Only an hour or so of game play but is rich in lore and is only about $4.Dispatch the DooM

This is exactly why I've held off from buying the game. I was waiting till people started really diving into the game and talking about it till I pulled the trigger. Kinda upset I waited, but still glad to see its as good as it looks.

Re: Alien: Isolation is good? ...maybe?
I've been watching youtube videos on this and a few twitch streams, and apart from a few graphical bugs and one game breaking bug, it looks good.
Game breaking bug happened as the guy going out of a floor vent exactly as the alien was standing over it/going into it, causing the alien to be catapulted out of the level, breaking all game Ai, sounds, and interactions I the process. He could still walk around inside the vent, but could not get out, and all the human AI that were sill in the level stopped moving or doing anything entirely.

A reload last save would clear out that issue. I've had the game crash twice but that's about it. Once, I reached a room and the alien fell from the ceiling and through the room into a bottomless pit, but it' wasn't even a level it was suppose to be in. I just thought it was funny and continued on with no issues. Is the game flawless? No, but show me one that is.
What do you think people would say if they still had to do this with todays games....
