Twice i think and they weren't solid on a release date up until end of the year last year anyways so they never made any real commitments. It's safe to say it will be released on time. These betas are a sure sign if all things go well and nothing catastrophic happens. Betas theses days worry me though. In the traditional AAA gaming title beta there simply isn't enough time to turn all the feed back they get from them into actual needed changes. It's an annoying trend and I wish they would call them for what they really are and thats demos not betas. It's just a way to drive pre-orders so you can get an early taste of the game. I just realized though that I have kinda been the derby downer here so sorry about that guys. I just have a lot of frustrations I guess I need to vent Tom Clancy's The Division.

    Re: Tom Clancy's The Division

So far I can say the game is super fun.

The game has mechanics that are very deep, like the gun customization. And while there are a lot of things locked out of the beta (crafting, perks, talents, two entire skill trees, 80% of the map, etc) I can see that they are all going to not be shallow.

Doing the PVE content was fun, the echos are a very clever way of doing story telling, and the intel drops are also interesting if you take the time to listen to the audio recordings. There was only one main mission in the beta, which me and salty did on hard mode. We wiped quite a few times, but I always thought it was our fault. So the difficulty of the game is there.

Then we went into the dark zone part of the map, the PvP area. The mechanics of which I wasn't quite sure of while entering. After a while we figured it out. There are AI driven mobs that you can kill for loot, or randomly find loot in packs/chests around, but all this loot is contaminated and you cannot use it. First you have to extract it. So you have to go to one of the extraction zones in the map (there were four or five in the beta) and call a helicopter in. So then you have a 1 minute 30 second wait. This is where me and salty found out that every player on the map will come to the extraction and kill you for your loot. You see, when you kill someone in the dark zone they drop all their contaminated loot and some of their dark zone credits, and lose some of their dark zone experience. Quite an interesting mechanic.

After many many times losing all our stuff to other players, we eventually employed some tactics and got two or so extractions of loot. It was quite enjoyable for me, I am looking forward to the full release even more.

    Re: Tom Clancy's The Division

I agree with everything Rush said. This is probably the most fun I've had in a beta in a long time.

After you logged off I played a little more in the dark zone and trigger hopped on too once he got his drivers sorted out. Something amazing happened. I found something with legendary status called a dark zone key, no idea what it is or what I was but I got jumped by a group of 3 guys and when they took my loot one of them said "oh shit, he's got a key!" And they all went nuts".

I was pissed that they took it so I respawned and tried to cut them off on the way to the extraction. Since they killed me, the map showed them as "gone rogue" which highlights to everyone nearby that these guys are hostile and that they attacked an innocent player. I cut them off at and intersection, set a trap, killed the guy with my key, and ran away. They chased me, killed me, and took it back, but I delayed them long enough that they missed their extraction, and the gunfire exchange attracted other players to the area.

If you are rogue status for long enough and keep attacking players, the division will put a bounty on you, and Mark your position on the map so everyone in your pvp zone can come and get you. This is called man-hunt. Basically because these guys killed multiple friendlies and weren't able to extract, the division put fat bounties on their heads and told everyone where they were. Once people showed up, I said into voip chat (there is a proximity chat like in dayZ where nearby players can hear you) "hey these guys have my key" and I was able to rally a small mob of like 8 players, most likely they just wanted the bounty for killing them, but I provided enough incentive that they temporarily helped me.

We chased them down an alley, they climbed a ladder, and we had them trapped on this rooftop , surrounded them on all sides, and they had nowhere left to go. We then had like a 25 minute gunfight/standoff with them, keeping them from leaving the roof with my loot.

Now, when you die in the dark zone, you respawn back at a safe area right outside the dark zone where you can refill ammo, grenades, and med packs. Basically since the guys on the roof couldn't die without losing the loot, they couldn't resupply on ammo like we could, so after wearing them down and getting them down to just their pistols, we all rushed in and beat the shot out of them. To our surprise, in addition to the key, they also dropped like 15 other loot items and everyone went nuts, grabbed everything, and bolted to the nearest extraction.

As soon the chopper arrived, all hell broke loose, and everyone was trying to escape with the loot. It was absolute carnage as players started showing up from every nook and cranny to try and steal the loot. I died in the fight and didn't get any of the loot, but it was still so much fun.

I thought it would be lame getting jumped every time you try to extract stuff because people would just camp the extractions and mug you, but that's not really the case. The game punishes you heavily by going rogue - everyone nearby will be alerted to your position and you will lose alot of money and xp if you are killed as a rogue. And if you kill someone marked rogue, there is no penalty. So if want to risk killing someone to get their stuff it better be worth it. If you can make it out as a rogue and escape cleanly, you get a big xp boost and extra money. So it is kind of like a high risk high reward scenario.

Later after all that, trigger and I went around hunting down rogue players for bounties. It's a lot of fun and you cut good money for it. It also gives you a sense of justice

I've only played it for 1 day, but so far I really like it. There's a good mix of pvp ans pve, plenty of things to do, and the pvp is kind of like dayZ where anything can happen.

The game has left a good impression, I'm definitely going to be buying this one. Oh yeah, and the game runs pretty good too, at least for me it does

The keys unlock random chests scattered around the dark zone. The chests have rare and epic loot.

    Re: Tom Clancy's The Division

got into the beta today.. played it for about an hour.

Graphics are good. the UI is intuitive and impressive in my brief experience so far.

Definite fun factor to be had here! I'm curious just how deep this game will be. I'll report back soon.

    Re: Tom Clancy's The Division

This game reminds me a lot of Defiance (the weapons/mods, damage model, and AI, lore pickups, map/quest system, some of the movement (no 4-wheelers in The Division though , the way you have slottable abilities, and the shitty client-side code which makes it so easy to hack), and Watchdogs (cover system, "echo" lore).

There are a bunch of mechanics we haven't see yet, such as crafting. I hope to see some more varied weapons, such as heavy weapons/grenade launchers/etc. I am really interested in seeing what the Tech tree looks like, since earlier in development Techies were supposed to be able to be combat engineers and deploy different turrets and things like that.

I would have liked more environmental interaction/destruction, especially since outside of the social hub and DZ, you're in your own PvE instance of Manhattan, so having more than just cars blow up would be nice.

I am expecting to see other boroughs unlocked through DLC (like in Defiance, where the different SF/Bay Area districts are opened up).

Scene/phase transitions are really seamless which is really great, no/very little load lag; loading areas are very nicely handled (like when you go from the safe house to outside, the only thing that's noticeable is you can't sprint through the door, but the immersion is not broken), but ever since Ghost Recon, Ubi's been great at those.

I hear rumors that they are bringing back the tablet-companion feature again after stripping it out earlier? (Where you can get a 5th person in your party that operates the support drone from their tablet, like the original BF4-commander mode).

Tech issues: none really, running on High at 1080p on a 770 4gb card and stock speed i5-4690 averaged 40-50fps with 358.50 drivers. Only crashed once when I died in DZ and it hung on respawn and I had to kill the game from taskmgr.

I really hope they hire some devs or something from Trion and change the client-side code to reduce the cheating in the DZ (which is what broke Defiance for months).
