Have you played the recent Castlevania games? They are alot better now than they were when they first went 3D. The 64 versions where horrible but they have gotten much better. I still try to get all of them whenever I see a new one come out.
Now something like say Mega Man or Contra, those would be better suited for side scrollers as I have yet to see any good fully 3D version for either.
Mario though, is great in 3D, although the older ones are still classic, the newer 3D ones are just as good.

I loved Mega-man Legends, the second one suck but the first one was pretty cool.
And no I haven't played any of the newer ones, I heard there was a DS one that wasn't so bad but was still not that good, but after that I stopped reading up on them.

Don't forget metroid for snes. That was one of the best games for the console. The prime series are great, but I think this is one of the few games were it should've stuck to it's roots (2d side scrolling action).
I'd get mario galaxy, but I'm currently busy with trauma center: new blood.
