i rocked the tribes and tribes 2 for a year or so...but then i was introduced to CAL at that time and concentrated solely on CS.....damn fine game and way fun.

well, there are a couple of ways to get past the CD key issue. Currently, the plan is to use alternate master servers that do not require them. This is not really piracy because the game is available for free and they no longer allow new key registration anyways. I found my account information and played a few rounds this afternoon and was surprised to see that there are still a few active servers. Being here in Germany helped because most of the ones that had people in them were in Europe. here is the link to the download of the game, it installs the latest version, patches and all.

Fileplanet also has a great section for additional maps that are used on most servers now.
Also, if you have been away from the game for awhile, and are going to start, an anti cheat program called defense turret is required on most servers

Ok, here is the alternate master server fix.
This will let you play on servers that use the alternate master server without a CD key

If I get the server going (SJT17 CHECK YOUR PMs) I will see about putting these files up for download on TTP's download section. That place is underused anyway.

Ok, first thing to do is to download the game and the master server workaround. Install the game then install the alternate server patch. Make sure you follow the readme on the alternate server patch. You have to launch the game from that .bat file.

My X-fire handle is gumbykey1337 everyone who is going to be helping here post your xfire handles. We can use that to help coordinate a time to test the alternate servers thing.
