Not to even mention that no PC dedicated servers means that you are looking at much, much smaller player sizes for maps.

Smaller maps means more spam most likely too, too much nade spam = no fun.

Although it'd be interesting to see how it'd lag and if the spam would still be an issue or not...

LMAO...I'm listening to the full podcast of BASH123 and some of the people the guy is interviewing is saying "it sounds like they just forgot about the PC part of the game & are just trying to cover it up to meet their deadline saying they've never been late"

That would not surprise me at all.

He did mention that smaller players would not be an issue for the PC version

"A GSP...fourzerotwo said there would be dedicated files"

But can it be trusted? Probably not. I think it is cool though how some console gamers are rallying support for us PC players.

Their forum has a 50 page topic about the no dedicated servers btw...http://www.infinityward.com/forum/vi...?f=13&t=121800

    Matchmaking >>>> Servers IMO.

Surprised they didnt include the option though. Matchmaking makes things more competitive, and it eliminates a TON of the problems dedicated servers have (plus some of the benefits.)

Why all the hate on matchmaking?? I would kill for MAtchmaking in other PC games like TF2, CSS, etc. Just look at how successful and competitive Halo 2 and 3 were - IMO it was largely due to matchmaking.

Same with games like War3, WoW arena, etc.

The hate is because it kills the smaller communities. Instead of picking a server where everyone has common interests, you're forced to play with 12 year old players named LOLURMOMSUX.

Matchmaking puts too much work on 1 person's computer and their internet connection. If their connection sucks or something happens (someone else in the house starts downloading) it effects your play plus you can't have nearly as many people in matchmaking because of the workload it'd put on your computer and your connection and make it horrible for others.

In these types of games, it is great to have more people if you can work as a team and the servers can handle them.

Try to get a nice 12v12 game even in matchmaking vs the performance of a dedicated server and you'll see the difference.

killed the competitive and modding scene. server owners dont have the option to customize the server... no helis/airstrikes etc.

Go play L4D and make the lobby leader host the server on their own box. That is what I fear MW2 multiplayer is going to look like.

EDIT: Not to mention that CoD4 and CoDW@W were not lightweights in cpu, memory or bandwidth to host on the dedicated server side of things.

I'm concerned with this as well, if other companies follow suit it will surely be the death of mp on PCs.
While i do not have any internal sources regarding the mentioned companies, from a professional stand point I can take a pretty good guess as to why some game development companies are choosing this path.

Reason number 1: Hackers, If your looking to make a hack, many keys lie in the servers source code. If skilled malevolent dev's get their hands on the dedicated server binaries, they can decompile them and examine the source code for exploits and what not, to use to develop certain-most-sought-after types of hacks for the game. While its still possible to develop hacks and cheats for a game without the dedicated server files, having them simplifies the process.

Second, every game developer is twitchy about releasing anything that contains source code, or insight on engine internal methods, especially those that are deemed trade secrets or deal with access to a stats database (ex reason why bf2 ranked server files are not publicly available). Typically, the dedicated server files contain a significantly larger portion of these trade secrets than the client files. Since game engines have come a long way, every day that transpires lengthens the distance between competing engines. Newly created engines are at a serious disadvantage, because they are years behind the leaders of the industry, and again, everyday that they work on their engine, is yet another day that the leaders get ahead. This makes the industry extremely competitive thus the "give them as little as possible" ideology is born.

Third, off of #2, seeing the market for consoles, of which most multiplayer servers are NOT hosted by communities but rather monopolized game server companies which already host oodles of nonpublic server files; which makes them more favorable than the widespread, competitive pc game-server hosting market.

There are many other reasons, but they generally are a result of newer or nonleading game companies not being comfortable with giving out files with contain t.s. or methods they hold dear. However, there is some light: because of the industry leaders like Valve, Crytek, or Unreal; game developers who choose to develop a game around a preexisting engine, will more then likely, not even give a second thought to releasing dedicated server files (because they already have been released by the engine dev's for showcasing ex crysis).

All-in-all, don't worry about it, only the cockroaches in the industry are the ones who consider not releasing the dedicated server files, and subsequently screw themselves over all-the-more because of it.
