I should stop bitching because the game advertised something that should work right out of the box but doesn't?

    Bullshit, Kyle.

I did EVERYTHING right, I did EVERYTHING I could possibly do to get this to work. I forwarded the ports, that didn't work. I installed programs that were supposed to do it for me and that didn't fix it either. I even shut off ALL my anti-virus and firewalls while all the ports were open as well and not even that worked. I am not doing any more fucking retarded ass shit to my computer just to get this game to work how it is supposed to.

I should not have to go in and do these things to my computer, especially when Gearbox themselves have given no official solution or workaround to this problem, and until then I am not going to do any more crap to my system that can potentially make it vulnerable, and I am not going to install 3rd party software that will "maybe" fix the problem anymore.

If I was an average gamer, or someone just getting into gaming, who would most likely not know how to do all this crap to their computer and router, I would have DEMANDED a refund from Gearbox or Steam because of the fact that my game doesn't work as advertised. A game should by no means not work without a bunch of configuring special things on your computer or router or installing a bunch of special software that is not even included with the games install. It's bullshit and if I was that average gamer or new gamer I would never touch the game again or wait till it is patched, which at this point looks like will be the same as not touching it again because Gearbox is ignoring everything about the port issues.

My arguments are completely valid here, show me where they are not if you really think I am just blowing air out my hole.

Borderlands should have been more considerate and figured out one of the millions of works arounds. But they didn't, because they figure... you know, I don't know what was going through their heads.

Corpse, I'm a completely casual gamer. I know little about much at all. I hardly know what a port is. I've found my work around.

I agree with you DancingCorpse . Why this game doesn't do co-op right out of the box is beyond me. I shouldn't' have to do a thing to my PC to get the full features of this game. I don't even like that you have to have a GameSpy account to do co-op.

Thankfully I got co-op to work by doing the port-forwarding thing. But I know there are others like you (2 out of the 4 guys I normally game with) that couldn't get it to work no matter what they tried.

Corpse I understand that you are frustrated about all this and are blowing a lot of steam out but, honestly port forwarding is something that is very common with PC games, even popular ones such as Unreal Tournament require that you forward ports. It's just something that has had to be done for a long time when it comes to PC gaming. I don't think an average gamer would really buy a game or even play PC games really, they would probably have gone the easy way and just play the game on a console. Sure it's a little extra work to forwards some ports but it's nothing too major. It really would have been a lot easier if there were dedicated servers so you wouldn't have to do all this stuff.

The only thing I didn't see you comment about and might be causing an issue is that maybe your router isn't set up to have a static IP. Meaning every time you log onto the internet your IP will be changed making the IP you used in your port forward invalid. Not sure if you've checked that but it's something that is worth noting.

^This is what finally got it working for me. Ask Sammus if you need help, he walked me through the whole process.

in order to have a static IP with my provider, I would have had to set up and pay for a commercial account, which wasn't gonna happen, but after having talked to a rep from the company, they told me that NO ports are blocked on their end. My problem ended up being a result of my antivirus.

Now I'm not saying it will work for everyone, hell, last I tried, I couldn't host, but gave up quickly, and found another way to play the game... But people shouldn't be talking as if there is some magical way around the problems we all know exist, and that some cant get around.... As much as people should realize that HOSTING a game, is just that.... people need to be able to connect to YOUR game, so of course, there will sometimes be issues in doing so.

    Re: Borderlands PC Patch Released

Has anyone else had issues with the dynamic shadows after the update? My game updated via Steam and now I'm having trouble with the shadows. They go all across the screen in horizontal bands. Very annoying. When I turn off dynamic shadows the game works better/looks better but it's still kind of buggy... Any advice?

My router and my ISP give me a dedicated static IP.
