Given the "disproportionate contribution" that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 provided to Activision Blizzard's well-padded bottom line, it won't come as a surprise that the next Call of Duty game is coming this holiday season. See? You're not surprised.

Activision Blizzard confirmed its plans to "continue annualizing" the first-person shooter franchise with the still-unnamed seventh entry in the billion dollar Call of Duty series, offering little new info. But executives did talk briefly about the game's release window and their desire to see some subscription-style revenue from the series.

"If you think about the successes we have had in other categories on subscriptions, you can get a sense of the direction we want to take that franchise," Activision CEO Bobby Kotick said during today's quarterly earnings call, not specifying exactly when it planned to take such steps.

Execs expected a less "friendly" release window in 2010 than the one that Modern Warfare 2 had in 2009, when publishers, including Activision, shifted games from the fourth quarter to the next year.

While Activision Blizzard brass did not name the developer of the next major Call of Duty game, developer Treyarch has been linked to the next iteration.

supposedly coming out 4th quarter this year. This is getting bullshit, real fast. Not having dedicated servers is one thing, but paying to play a game AFTER you buy it is complete rubbish.

And you wonder why BC is aiming to take over military FPS.

I can't understand how they're going to pull this off unless its a persistent world that is continually updated.

Yeah they screwed the PC version, but the console one was great.

It just goes to show when you fuck with the PC crowd and believe it worked you get corrected forever. Say Bye-bye to player base.

not even, the console one was average at best, everything ranging from campers to glitchers, and there is nothing you can do about it. Combine that with unbalanced weapons and tactical knives and u got a below average multiplayer. I also didn't enjoy the single player, it was like Tom Clancy got drunk and wrote a bad novel.
