How did you start Multi Player Gaming?
I would add a poll, but Im not so much of a nerd that I know all the original multi player games.
I remember everquest, unreal, and a few others...but if a mod wants to add a pole with a list of OG online games, have at it. And we are not talking about yahoo games....
Im talking FPS, MMORPG's, etc....
My first multiplayer online game was Quake II CTF...that is what got me hooked on it all! Shortly after I discovered CS, and the rest is history.
So what about you?

Command and Conquer Red Alert. I owned the original Command and Conquer, but it wasn't until I got Red Alert where I finally started to play people with my 14.4 modem. It was slow as hell, but we would play.
Shortly after, I upgraded to my Cyrix 150 MHz PC for the release of Quake. Once Quake came out, my life was pretty much changed. When Quake GL was released, I purchased my first 3D card (Voodoo1). That didn't last very long as titles such as Quake II, Moto Racer, and Need for Speed II SE and Hot Pursuit were on the rise, and I needed more power. I then upgraded to my first AMD System: K6-2 266 MHz. I also purchased two VooDoo 2 12mb graphics cards and ran them in SLI with a Stealth II card for my 2D graphics.
At that time (1999-2000), I was playing some heavy Command and Conquer Red Alert (I had all of the expansions), Quake II, Half Life, Quake III, Unreal Tournament, Motocross Madness, Monster Truck Madness II, and a bunch of Quake II engine based games that I don't really remember (there were a lot of Quake II mods back then).
Well that was how it all started. I had 2 custom PC builds by the time I was 17, and back then you couldn't just go onto Newegg.com and find the cheapest deal. I had to actually search for things on pricewatch.com or trust my local computer stores. I ended up finding this local place in Tampa near the airport called TCWO (Thomspon Computer Warehouse). They were ranked as one of the cheapest places in pricewatch.com, yet they were local, so no shipping charges.

Stupid ASCII games aside...
Doom/Doom2. Adhoc via dialup. Oh yes so much fucking fun. Next was warcraft 1. (came as a demo with 14.4k modems). Followed up with Duke Nukem, WC2, quake1, HL1,CS, Unreal tournament, ... gets pretty mashed up from there. MMORPG, FPS, RTS my main loves for multi-player.
Edit: holy shit I forgot about Oregon Trail!. It was not exactly multiplayer, but at school we did play in one lab.
Second edit: You guys seem to forget that technically all those old ass consoles were multiplayer. Remember Mario/Contra on the NES? Once again we probably have some ancient crypt keepers who were using Atari's and some obscure old man gaming. (Real life gaming doesn't count, so don't tell us about stick-ball back in 1880 ***commander***)Last edited by GReYVee; 07-13-10 at 03:11 AM. Reason: omg Oregon trail
