    Got enough lag complaints that I just turned off monsters again.

    Hopefully notch will fix his shit eventually and we can play it with mobs. :/

    Ah, may have to join with you in doing that Spirit. Though, I did see one climb the corner of my wall and get on top over my sandstone row, but that may have been due to lag. Who knows...

    Spiders can be thwarted easily by having a lip edge extending one block over whatever you don't want the spiders getting up. Just make it out of a gravity-defying material like dirt or cobble.

    I have a lip edge on my main walls but not on my entrance dealy...

    My outpost is on a hill 3 minutes walk West of the city, not sure if I have any neighbors

    Is there any way to choose which monsters appear and which don't? For example having zombies and spiders but not creepers and skeletons spawning. Or vice versa? Might cause less lag and we'd still have SOME kind of monsters.
