FPS With the Least Annoying Snipers
I know better than to say "FPS with NO snipers" because like mayonnaise they insist on showing up in everything and fucking it up. Monday Night Combat has them for fucks sake.
So in which FPS am I least likely to get involved in an intense gunfight across barricades only to get one-shotted from across the map by some douche who has mastered his one-trick pony?

Re: FPS With the Least Annoying Snipers
its a skill apart of reflex shots, and lineup shots.
hell, sniping is the basic core of hitscan...
Gotta learn how to avoid them and make yourself a hard target to hit: erradic movement, zig-zagging, etc.
if you show'ed enough of yourself to get sniped, than any decent player would have hit you anyways....

Re: FPS With the Least Annoying Snipers
Your point is sound, but it seems that the OP is referring to how many games end up nothing more than sniper wars due to the OP nature of the weapons/class. In many games once you get good with a sniper rifle you pretty much destroy anyone unless they are also good with the sniper rifle. This gets so bad that some weapons and tactics are frowned upon or banned. These games tend to become very one dimensional, and IMHO less fun.
My guess is that the real question is which games do not have OP sniper classes/weapons?

America's Army 3, the "sniper" in that game is usually limited to one team if there is a spot for him on the team. The only advantage to being the "sniper" is the scope, you can one shot headshot just fine with the normal rifleman rifle.

Re: FPS With the Least Annoying Snipers
Eh, i disagree with that. I suppose its easier for me to see because i am a Unreal child, raised in a FPS that forced the player to master the dodging ability, so dodging enemy fire (both preemptive (anticipated fire) and incoming rounds) became a crucial skill for all classes, not just snipers. I can understand that folks raised on FPS like counter strike, to not see the heavy impact and crucial roll this skill has.
In a sniper vs sniper, its not really who can shoot first. Its who can land the first fatal shot first. I see a lot of regs who die over and over and over and over because they are dead set determined to walk between points/objectives across an open field in a straight line and not take any fatal fire. I know they are getting aggravated and instead of trying something other than moving in a straight line, they become discouraged, call it hopeless, and start complaining; I cant help but wonder why they have not tried anything different.
I dont have the problem, sure i may get shot ONCE by a sniper maybe, just maybe twice by the same sniper as i am traveling along the same path, but not a single time more. Why? dodging, once you know the enemies position, its easy to move in a manner that DRASTICALLY makes you harder to hit. This type of movement I suppose, is learned when you snipe alot: you know which shots are hard to take based on the enemies movement and distance.
If we are on a BC2 map like heavy metal and your snipping at me from another point, i guarantee i can evade your shots every single time, barred you getting shit lucky.
This is not some "hey look at me im super leet" , dodge people, try erradic movement, zig-zagging, anything that keeps you from moving in a straight line! Theres a significant skill curve between landing shots on linear paths and landing shots on erratic movement. Theres a LOT of people who snipe, that can only land those linear shots, by just basic dodging you can avoid fire from the overwhelming number of "snipers" (most of which are at the lower end of that skill curve).
Dodging is a skill that a lot of people do not even realize is possible. Hone it up, and youll give even the most seasoned snipers a run for their money.Last edited by Bunni; 03-24-11 at 09:34 AM. Reason: fixed typo
