So the gameplay feels very much like CoD to me, but the graphics and atmosphere they created is really impressive.
When you are being suppressed and are alone, your character actually starts whining and crying about not wanting to die.
One time, I even saw a guy get shot in the gut, but not instantly fatal, the character model limped over and walked about all shakily as one hand went to grab his wound, and the other pulled out the pistol to try and get in last shots before he was killed off. I was impressed.

I like it.
The guns function as expected (coming from RO: ost), they are a little more friendly to new players though. Smoke is VERY important, good commanders really help (smoke usage and emergency reinforcements). Overall the game is as I expected and better.
Countdown (the "single-life" gamemode) is surprisingly balanced even in 24v24. One team plays attackers, the other defense. There are multiple capture areas, but only one active at a time. Attackers try and cap, defenders hold off. The cap zones are fairly large, and the capture mechanic is such that you can capture a zone so long as you have more teammates in the zone than the enemy has. Once a zone is captured, everyone on both teams respawns in a slightly forward position.
One life I played, I found myself prone, crawling along a low wall all the way around the cap zone. When I felt like I was behind all of them, I began picking them off. Very satisfying to have such a great reward at the end of a minute or so of crawling. I got the final 4 Russians and we won. Then we all swapped sides automatically to see if we could hold it better.
Just don't go into this game thinking you are going to be in some fast paced shoot-em up. You will need patience. We can do better.

And yet, I've seen quite a few people on the RO2/steam forums agree with me that the game is too fast paced, especially with such a short timer.
Although, once again, I think I'm biased because I come from WWIIO:BE where me and a small squad will crawl through grass for over an hour to get into position. Thus, crawling for 'a minute or so' doesn't seem that long.
I understand that the hardcore realism isn't very popular and they are trying to get a bigger player base, I was just being unrealistic in my expectations for the game when everyone was raving about how realistic it is.
It is actually a pretty good CoD type game, and if I play the game along those expectations, it's nice, but it's no simulator.Last edited by Blah64; 08-31-11 at 05:10 PM.

I don't think it plays like CoD at all. I played RO and this game is very similar, with a few minor adjustments.
I think the best comparison would be to how Apartments plays versus how Danzig played. They are both the same overall layout, Apartments (RO2) being based off of Danzig (RO). The East/West bridgeheads have been made easier to cap, thanks to having a traversable riverbed. But after that, taking Market and Langer (now called Propaganda house and something Park, respectively) play out almost exactly the same as they did in RO. So the map doesn't stall at the bridgeheads as easily, but its almost the same otherwise.
It seems like some people were expecting a game unlike RO. The changes between the two games didn't drastically change the gameplay. As for the new gamemodes, if people don't like them they don't have to play them. Territory is available.
Also, did you playing full realism or relaxed realism? Or both?Last edited by Madmax (Grape); 08-31-11 at 07:52 PM.
