"Recent Posts"

I think the politics and drama departments of the web forums should not list in the "Recent Posts" section on left/top of forums.

My reason is that most of the threads that populate the "recent posts" area are high drama posts by a minority of the community having nothing to do with teamplaying or gaming.

Seems kind of a turnoff to come to a new gaming community and see 4/5 threads being discussed are emotionally charged arguments.

I'm not trying to disparage those kinds of threads, just suggesting they don't make a good impression to newcomers checking out our Gaming site and they should not be prominently featured.

I tend to agree. That's all I see in the top left and I'm not interested in those debates/topics. I would rather see things that encourage community here.

Wow. That's a really astute observation.

I post in a variety of forums, but since one of them is Drama I wouldn't have made that connection on my own.

Agreed. Most are discussions of important events and issues and they have their place, but they are often at the forefront of the home page.

Easy solution. When people begin posting in those other areas one section wont be running the recent post screen. Seems like this a complaint about the other sections not having enough posts. Dial it up a notch and quit bitching.

I don't believe so, we should wait until we get more feedback from users. Reason being that maybe someone will post a better argument against this (besides "quit bitching" lol) that may influence the way people vote. I think it's a good idea, but IMO there hasn't been an opportunity to get a wide range of pros and cons to initiate a vote just yet.

recent posts are recent posts who cares what section they are from if person is interested in game X he will go to the game X forum if hes interested in clan X he will go to the clan X forum same for the drama or OTS etc if he just reads the recent posts hes a lazy bastard so fuck him

I was thinking similar things.

So, as Devil's Advocate: if there are people who want Drama for dessert with a meal of Gaming, then it's not a bad thing to let them know we've got it on the menu.

The site is the face of TPG for many people. It needs to (a) be the face that the people who run it want, and (b) attract new gamers.

Bunni sez it's easy to cut Drama out of the "Recent" loop. It might be just as easy to add another div so that there were two feeds of Recent: "Recent Gamer Posts" and "Recent Chit-chat" (Drama, Sports, Off-The-Servers). Something like that would show an even balance on the page.
