04-14-08, 11:11 PM #1Auto-balance configuration on 2142
Out of curiosity, how is auto-balance configured on the 2142 servers? With 2142CC, I know you have 2 options. You have the auto-balance built-into the 2142 server software itself as well as one that's unique to 2142CC Daemon. In my experience, the auto-balance built into the 2142 server software isn't that great, and the one from 2142CC is better (but not perfect.) If you have both turned on it's a real fustercluck. They work against each other and the teams never get balanced until enough new people join the server.

ideally it would just swap 10 random people per map. On a 48 person server ruffly 40% (10/24) of the team would be randomly swapped each time the map changes. There have been A LOT of stacked games lately and if the teams are full no one can change sides.

The bigger problem is when theres a 4 or 5 player imbalance. 4 or 5 players, especially when the server is not full for any extended period of can lead to an ugly situation.
Last night the PAC was outnumbered 13-9 for the first 10 minutes of a round on Leipzig. No one was being auto-balanced over, and it finally evened out when 4 people joined the server and we were 13-13

CC is handling it, if there is a 2 person imbalance it will start with un-squaded folks and try to switch them over. I am not sure what the problem was last night, though I would guess it was a combination of low player numbers and everyone being in a squad.

Re: Auto-balance configuration on 2142
There are occasional problems where the teams become lopsided and auto-balance doesn't fix it and the game won't even let you manually switch teams to even it out. Most noticable after moving to a NS map, but I can think of times when it has happened on regular maps. The quick fix has been to disconnect and reconnect to the server, then you'll automatically be resorted to the team with less people.

I believe the other limitation is that you can only have one person switch teams manually per minute, so if someone's just moved over, you have to wait 60 seconds before you try it yourself. As it stands, though, I've never seen the teams imbalanced by more than one or two people for more than a few minutes.
