Special Forces maps added to standard BF2 rotation?
Does anybody have an idea of how many BF2 folks have Special Forces? If there are a decent number of them, why not add Special Forces maps to the ordinary BF2 server rotation? If there aren't very many, then TTP could host a Special Forces server using 16- or 32-player map sizes. Most servers overlook those in favor of the 64-player map size.

Well, i cant stress enough that this has been tried a few times at TTP, and even with a pretty good support crew from our regs, it just would not take off. Its a sore subject with some, but the bottom line is, it never gained enough following to carry its own weight as a hosted game.
Sorry to burst the bubble, but, its a dead horse.

No problem in asking, and theres nothing that your not supposed to know. I was one of the biggest proponents of bringing an SF server to TTP, and several of the resident clans had very dedicated primers. We attempted to get a new following with SF, but in its best days it pulled more of our regulars from the BF2 server. Yes we did pick up some new members due to SF, but honestly i don't think most of them stuck around when it shut down.
It simply proved to be counter productive. Sinking hours and hours into the server to build a new player base just didn't produce the returns that TTP needed. We did consider all the options, including a 16 or 32 player. I think we were considering a 32 player the last time, but due to incredible punk buster and host issues, we opted to cut it loose and focus elswhere.
I'm still sad it didn't work out, but no one can say that TTP staff and regulars didn't give 100% in trying to make it fly.

though one time (the 2nd SF server) we were getting plenty of new connections and not just "regulars", it would run around 30-40 people (possibly full, can't remember but i don't think it ever filled up), with Regular BF2 running at its usual high numbers. But that time it got killed for lagging the other servers or something to that extent.
The reason they can't be added to the normal server is that when you connect to an SF server using Vanilla BF2 it will exit vanilla and boot SF and then join the server. Same if you try to join a vanilla server using SF. So i'm guessing it would act the same with the maps.

Re: Special Forces maps added to standard BF2 rotation?
All that was said in this thread is accurate. We did host a few Special Forces servers and had Admins priming up the server and giving it their all. It went and every one in a while, got up to 14 to 16 players and on a rare occasion, hit in the 30's but could not sustain it.
Then we grew and it did have to go and we got an extra server box and hosted it there and the same thing. There is just not enough support or players to keep it going. It is fading away to the past and we are moving forward.
We do however host it on our Match servers, but even there, not enough players sign up to make a match of it.
So, it had to go.
