    Insurgency and ARMA

Has either Insurgency Source (INSURGENCY: Modern Infantry Combat) or ARMA ever been a game hosted at TPG?

Insurgency is a free Half Life 2 mod that has been receiving updates as early as April according to the website, and ARMA is a reality military simulator. So real that its more widely used than Americas Army for simulation purposes. (VBS == ARMA / VBS2 == ARMA2...VBS stands for Virtual Battle Space...I think). Either way, I have played both, and after playing them its obvious team play is essential.

Have they been hosted here or considered before?

We had hosted both ArmA 1 and 2, and both had dismal user base from here at then TTP.

But, get enough people playing ArmA 2 and a following (there is a small one here) and it could happen. Bigdog loves the ArmA series.

We also did an Insurgency server. It was horrible because it has huge glaring bugs that made it virtually unhostable.

How long ago was that? Like I said before, it seems to be well supported. Maybe these bugs have been worked out since? The only reason I bring this up is that I know I have enjoyed playing both, and they definitely incorporate solid teamplay mechanics.

It was probably 2 years ago? Very short lived server.

I dont really have the will or really power to rally enough people to get those going again. They probably died for good reason. Thanks for filling me in though. Interesting they were given a shot and died so quickly.

INS is pretty much dead, there aren't many servers left.

    EDIT:
    Well, there's 80

ArmA didn't die too quickly, it was around for a couple of months before we pulled the plug. The main problem was that the only people really playing on it were the admins. I mean, it was fun and all, but doesn't really justify having it if we hired all the people who are playing it.

    arma forum:

    ArmA 2

We were into insurgency as well, full admin forums and everything. We pushed on the mod dev's to focus on some game-critical tasks.....and they blew us off.

And their game subsequently died. Great potential, ruined by devs and mods who play the "I'm so busy" excuse.

Arma.....just isn't complete enough. If it only had a functional voice package, and ran properly, and a decent size playerbase, we could warrant it's return. But it's a HUGE CPU and resource hog (with the AI functions), and unstable.

We might look into the latest iterations of ArmA 2, from what I hear they fixed a lot of issues, plays better, etc. Not sure if they fixed the resource issues though.
