Re: One of the most annoying things ever!
sigh.
TPG being $3000 in the hole is ridiculous.
either we find ways to pay for what we have....or we shut down things we have.
Which is worse? Less servers, shittier web hosting, and less activities like quakecon.....or some text ads?
The recession killed our inventory in terms of what we make per pageview. And in case anyone else is keeping track.....we've lost pretty much our entire reservist communities for BF2 and 2142, at least compared to what they used to be.
The complaints are valid. Trust me, I am not a fan. But.....striaght up popups are redirects are worse. Talking ads are worse (and yeah, they happen, but we fight ACTIVELY to remove and persecute those who show them here).
So.....make your choice. But these text ads have the ability for TPG to make several hundred more in revenue a month. Easily. Give it some time, and you'll be working over and around them like any other function on the site.

In fairness, most people probably didn't know that (I know I didn't). Bit off-topic but is it possible to update the donation thread or have a thread similar just to maybe privy people to the profit/loss month-to-month and over the course of the year (like a running tally). It doesn't have to be specific as to every category, even maybe just a simple:
Revenue: $xxx.xx
Expense: $xxx.xx
Profit/loss: $xxx.xx
Yearly balance (or w.e. you want to call it): $xxx.xx

Re: One of the most annoying things ever!
we can't disclose what we make on ad revenue, per our agreements with the networks.
Our expenses are substantial. And our profits are negative.
what's really sad is the idea that we just put crap on the website for no reason. As if we don't have to endure the same banner, text, or whatever other ads are going on. As if we don't care.
And that.......is a slap in the face, most ESPECIALLY by the current and former side mods, clan leaders, and regulars in this thread who ABSOLUTELY know better than to make such stupid assumptions.
that's right. Stupid.
Either you are a friend of TPG, and you believe your friend isn't an idiot, and makes decisions weighing the pro's and the con's....or you're an internet turd who complains first and thinks later, and thus has no friends. Pick sides, people (meaning everyone who likes to cry about it, and not simply those in this thread).

I never inteded a slap in the face, I don't think I was "stupid" either and I didn't make any assumptions as to why we had these kinds of ads anway. I was just syaing that I hated them. Now that I understanding that TPG is actually in the red, I would have never imagined TPG being in the red, I'm all for them.
