Re: Global Agenda (mmorpg + fps)
Spent a couple of hours watching some videos on Youtube and they've sold me on GA - it looks really, really fun. I'll be getting it probably Monday or Tuesday.
Any idea which classes seem to be the rarest and thus most in need? I'm drawn to Assault because I like the big guns... but somehow I figure Medic is probably the least played class.

Medic is actually not the least played from what I remember in beta. But that is because Medic also has some awesome abilities and they don't even have to heal or can be a good balance of offense & defense if they set it up correctly. I think Robotics was harder to come by when I played.
However that was also beta, & I have not gotten the release version yet so things might have changed. I think Manse is playing a Medic though and Menoske is Assault. But really play whatever you'll enjoy. If you play with TTP people, you should almost always have a good group to play with.

It's fairly even across the board. There are only 4 to choose from and it is by far the most balanced game I've played. Play whatever class you want. Assaults are a blast, as are medics. I haven't played much of the other two, but they are very versatile.
Another nice thing about the game: You have the same name across all your characters. No more "oh, I was on my alt, sorry." Plus, it makes it easy to know who is who and why they suck at a class because they are used to playing another.
I expect steam messages or you on vent when you get in, Pizza. You can also find the agency center, look up disorder, and apply through the game if you can't find any of us.

Got my little Robotics dude up to level 6. I hear we start getting useful stuff soon, right now you just get a little peashooter and a wicked turret that has like... no range at all.
Probably gonna go the Engineering route for the most part. Robotics = TF2 Engineer = Love.

Re: Global Agenda (mmorpg + fps)
Grinded up to lvl 11 for some shotgun love, and it's good. I think I'll really start to enjoy life when I unlock the rocket turret and can just comfortably camp somewhere halfway across the map and watch my turret pick off people flying around.
Right now, I think I'll be going for a skill build like this: http://serv.hexagenda.com/skills/robotics.html#a01n26d3
If that link doesn't work, I'm breaking it down like this:
- Jetpack Power and Power Pool Increase out of the Balanced tree.
- Turret Weapon Range, Repair Power Reduction, Repair Increase, Station Radius, Station Buff, and Cyber Specialist out of the Engineering tree.
- Cyber Health, Cyber Armor, Robotics Rifle Range, Robotics Rifle Power, and Robotics Rifle Damage from the Drones tree.
The end result is this: I have a larger power pool, allowing me to repair/buff my turrets (or the robot in Demo) for a longer period of time, and this is further increased by the repair skills in the Engineering tree; Power reduction skills for my jetpack, weapons, and repair tool further extend my power pool; more pure health and more effective health through skills like Cyber Health and Cyber Specialist; and better deployables, especially my Force Wall, Medical Station, and Power Station, as well as slightly improved turrets, with increased range and shorter deploy times.
Drones seem powerful, but if I wanted to play a killer, I'd probably be playing Assault. Turrets are fun, but have the inherent downside of mostly tying you down to a general area - they're still very useful (and I always have one with me, usually the personal turret when aggressive and autocannon turret when defensive), but I'd rather be able to constantly move my little deployables farm around if necessary - a Force Wall protects everyone while I get it set up, then the shorter deploy times, faster repairing, and extra health for my minions means everything stays alive longer. I've already noticed that a mk4 medcrate dramatically increases everyone's staying power.
I WILL say that Robotics fairly sucked until around 9 or so; your little basic peashooter ain't very effective (it's a semi-accurate weapon, yet isn't hitscan, and Robotics doesn't seem to have trouble fighting people at a distance, it's close range that causes problems) and lack of tools like the autocannon turret (which has like double the effective range of the personal turret) and especially the medical station makes it hard to be useful for your team.
I also feel that Recon is wildly overpowered, but somehow I think this is because they're something of a counter to Robotics - they either snipe me and my minions while I'm trying to get setup (force wall helps here), or they run up while invisible, spam their little bombs, then run away before I can kill them.

It uncloaks them, plus provides a fairly sexy AoE damage buff to your team. Most recons that want upclose (either bomb or melee) are fairly stupid and won't kill your medcrate before they try to kill you. If they go after you, your medcrate will cover a lot of their damage. If they go after the crate, whack them once for the power sap, then shoot them in the kidneys.
Start watching for patterns in melee attacks, too. You'll notice most people will hit your block shield 2 or 3 times before they figure it out, then about 75% of the time they start blocking in hopes you'll retaliate. Now that you have a shotgun, plan for this. Block a few, then switch to shotty and pound them once or twice. If the're alive, they'll either try to run (keep shooting) or pull out their gun (keep shooting or melee, they might switch back which costs them dps time).
As for snipers, there's not much you can do as a robo. Just try to keep you and your medcrate out of their LoS. You'll start figuring out where they are and hopefully can get someone on your team to punch them in the face. Later in the game, the classes balance out, but a lot of people have crappy low-level recons just like there are a lot of crappy rogues in WoW.
