had read about this in PC Gamer and it sounded kind of interesting. Downloading it at the moment to check it out, but would be nice to have some other noobs to try it with. From what i've read its set in a sci-fi world and almost completely player driven (except for some optional storylines the dev's may include). There are player ran factions, which appear to be the meat and bones of the game. Also it sounds like PvP is encouraged (and apparently happens often). It might be crap, but it at least sounds like interesting crap and worth checking out (hey its free, so not like you lose anything)
Though i do hate that they basically take a shitload of things away from the Free account, but better then nothing i suppose. If you do pay, the monthly fees are 9.99, so cheaper then most MMOs.

What kinds of things are taken away from the free accounts? I hate games that do that, especially ones that has a large PvP base since if you don't pay you'll typically get raped because of inferior gear/abilities/items.
Might try to check it out. There are bundles of free MMOs out there though that have great potential. Most don't get a good player base though since most people think if it is free, it sucks. Not sure I'll have time this weekend though to try this out.

biggest problem is if you get into a bad faction, or if you are on late at night (offhours) the gankfest begins and ust gets worse as the sane people go to bed and the 12yo apparently don't. GOM is a great faction with the people pretty helpful and nice, and usually left alone (except during offhours). the Mercs, i heard from someone i was talking with in game, are also pretty good, some assholes but for the most part a good group of people. LED i've heard is terrible, too many people so a crapton of rogue cops running around and the such.
for what they take out:
* 3x the storage space (3000 items per world)
* More than double the inventory space
* Promotion to the highest ranks possible
* Work off your penalty points 2-3x faster
* See other players of your faction on the minimap (free accounts will not see other players on the minimap at all)
* Carry more weapons
* Have an extra quickslot to use items more easily
* 200% Cloning speed
* Buy up to 200 clones
* Produce the highest quality of items
* No limit to selling items on the markets (free accounts are limited to 50 items offered per market)
* Own apartments
* Create your own department (if appropriate rank)
* Wear civilian clothing

Re: Face of Mankind
I play this game. I worshipped this game back during it's first open beta because it was new and original.
ranks are given out only by manual promotion by R4 or above. Show you are a good faction member and you'll be guaranteed the next rank.
There are no restrictions on gear at all. You can wear anything armor wise
Premium is purely convenience based, except for rank. Really, all it means is that in order to be recognized as faction leader or faction high command you need to be able to support the game. rank 3 is respectable but it really depends on how organized your faction is and whether or not they actually give people of a certain rank more in-game power(in the faction manager, the faction leader can set what ranks can do what as far as war status and such), but most of the time if you are stuck at rank 3 you can be just as trusted and be just as much of a leader as a rank 5. Hell, my department in the Brotherhood is led by a Rank 3, which the department was only formed by a paying high command.
The forums are just as fun as the game, current there are Senate elections going on (VOTE CCP IF YOU JOIN). The game focuses massively on politics at a personal, factional, and governmental level. Theres really no correct way to do anything
IF I had one gripe, it's that production is also heavily emphasized, but to each his own. I make my money by participating in politics and getting laws passed, so it doesn't affect me as much...
