Perhaps a list of player names is in order so we can add one another. I've been playing in platoons pretty regular as late, and it is more enjoyable.
I'm still running scout missions in an A-20 or T-46.

Well, it all depends if you want armor or speed. As a rule of thumb, the Russian tanks sacrifice some armor for extra speed, while the Germans do vice versa. If you're planning on going up the "holy shit giant tank" tree, Germans would be good. But the Russians have lots of "zippy" tanks that can flank you so badly. And the Germans have an extra Tier of Tank Destroyers, while the Russians have an extra Tier of Artillery. So, depending on what you want to do, a different nationality may be in order.

Been wreckin FACE with my SU-26, and inbetween rounds w/that, I have the teir 2 tank destroyer on the russian side (AT-2 I think?) that is fully upgraded, and can rape some fools :-P
