If you continue down the T-34-85 tree, your reward will be the T-44 (most excellente'), or you can stop at the T34-85 and jump your xp to the KV line, it's a quick progression (relatively) to the KV-3 then the IS.

The only problem about the KV is that if you want the elite status for it you have to not only get the KV-3 and KV-1S researched but also the SU-51 which by itself is 127k xp. I love the KV though, its the most fun I've had in a tank since the T-34.

I agree that the T-28 just plain sucks. Its a big target with weak armor and takes a lot of xp to upgrade, easier to just push through only the requirements for the KV. It and the A-20 are the only ones I've gotten rid of, I have all the russian tree tanks from the MS-1 to all the tier 5s now.

Might add that the SU-26 is the only arty with a turret that can go 360 degrees.

So don't Elite the KV, I didn't, and I sold the KV as soon as I bought the KV-3

The SU-85B is tough going also. It has quite decent guns but it has wet paper bags for armor. It also has the tendency to get thrown into matchups that it really has little hope of winning. You have to play very carefully and conservatively with it. Oh and buy a freaking camo net for it.

The SU-85 that comes after it makes it all worth it though.

I like how the KV gets tiered though, it is a good tank for its level and can survive hits from things that would blow apart a T-34. I said that elite was its ONLY problem, the tank is the greatest tank in tier 5 for Russians in my opinion, thought the T-34 is very close.

I have to say, although you've labelled the T-28 as 'to be avoided' it does have an awesome gun on it, and I actually had a great deal of fun playing it, despite it's bulk and complete lack of anything resembling armour. It's very fast for it's size, and the 122mm final gun upgrade packs a real punch for it's tier, ripping through anything in tier V that I can think of, and it's pretty accurate to boot.

The tree beginning at T-34 is quite fun, although the T34-85 and T-43 are basically the same tank, just the T-43 has considerably more armour than the 34-85. I haven't progressed any further yet, so can't say much more on that.

The KV is great fun in matches where you get tiered medium to high. On low matches though you tend to get one shot and die very quickly due to your abysmal speed. German mediums in particular can eat you for lunch.

The KV-1S is again, a bit of a struggle in some ways. It's better in every aspect than the KV imo, but because of it's upgraded tier, it tends to suffer from being pitched up against tanks that really smack it about. I haven't unlocked the bigger guns yet though, so hopefully that'll change matters
