Re: EVE dust514 crossover
I just saw this in the Steam News section:
CCP are trying to realise a staggering vision. They're trying to unite PC and console gamers in the same universe. Their FPS, Dust 514 is designed to let PC players send console players on missions to take strategically important planets in the Eve Online. Dust 514 players will share the same chat channels as PC gamers playing Eve Online, and will be able to join Eve's player-created corporations. Eve players floating high above conflict zones will even be able to deliver orbital strikes that will have a direct effect on the FPS battle raging below. It sounds incredible. It will release as a PS3 exclusive, funded by microtransactions, but we'll eat our hats if it doesn't come to PC within a year. You can read Josh's Dust 514 impressions here.
I am also excited about this. For the reasons that I like FPS and EVE. Oh, and I found a PS3 accessory that should offer Keyboard and mouse function (FPS requirements).

06-14-11, 08:38 AM #7I think it is marketing genius. If you release it to PC in the beginning you probably get a bunch o people that already play EVE quad boxing in dust as well, but by launching to PS3 you get a new crowd that you know will likely add EVE to their game collection as well. Brilliant.

Re: EVE dust514 crossover
I never played EVE, my brother has from day 1. Just watching him play it was enough for me to know I was not interested in that game. How ever if there was a PC version of Dust that I could play and in so doing support my brothers efforts? well thats a win win.
This isn't really at the core PC vs console it is mmorpg vs FPS in terms of play style. you could launch for both at the same time and hit a much larger swath of FPS gamers who would then perhaps look into EVE. I have no doubt the EVE players would also by dust and quad box it too. ALL the way around a much better marketing strategy to have it on console as well as pc at launch.
It is what it is, I just hope eventually it comes to PC (as speculated) because there is no way in hell I am purchasing a PS3.Last edited by ATEXANnHISGUN; 06-16-11 at 01:23 AM.

Hmmm...I wonder if the ground pounders will have means of hitting orbiting ships in manner that can actually hit hard? I mean, if a dread is up there, it could just go into siege mode and lay waste to any opposing force.
enf-Jesus its been like 12 minutes and you're already worried about stats?! :-P
Bigdog-Sweet home Alabama you are an idiot.
