Re: Decline of Science in the US
You only have to look at popular TV shows and things to understand that our society pretty much doesn't give a shit about intellect now. You have shows like Jersey Shore, entire networks like Bravo (really, who gives a flying fuck what some spoiled, rich gold digger does with her daily life, yet we have like five different shows on the same damn subject), and the fact that more news time is devoted to celebrity bullshit than anything that would make people think.
It's probably why I anethesticize myself with computer games in my free time. This world sucks way too much to bother participating in.

Re: Decline of Science in the US
I dont disagree with you. Im just pointing out issues at the core of the problem. Your about the same age as me i assume. So you already know how the game was played by us and know kids now play the exact same game. We thought we had everyone fooled and were creating a new one the same as they do now. You can tell by the younger ones posts they think its all changed and somehow we are incapable of knowing the reality. We did the exact same shit and blamed everyone else just as they are doing now. LOL my dad was right when he said the same shit 25 years ago. I never thought i would have to say that.

Re: Decline of Science in the US
The last really good tv show was married with children. TV blows and has for many years now. I didnt quit watching tv over a year ago because i felt im better then others. The only reason i stopped watching was american idol blows, csi blows, survivor blows, cops blows, the peoples court blows, and every other show was a spin off of those. No originality anymore.

Re: Decline of Science in the US
LOL I was so thinking the same thing.
As for TV - I own one TV. It's older than all of our children (by a goodly margin) and 95% (not a made up number) of its time on is playing movies (DVD/Netflix) and educational/documentary style series (netflix) and the Wii.
The only time I actually tune into a network station (cable) is if there is some sporting event that I absolutely must see. Otherwise all my TV watching is "drive-by" stuff if I am at a friend or family member's home to visit. As a result, I feel that our kids have better attention spans than their peers and receive less mind rotting programming from the boob tube than their peers.
But then Anira and I are not the average parents and have no "babysitters" for our children (human, digital or otherwise). It pays in the long run to pay attention to everything that your children are doing. But I know that many of you know this.
