I knew a guy in my town, who was pretty good friends with a black guy. They hung out a lot together, went to parties etc. I heard one day that the white had used the word nigger around him in a casual way. The black guy beat the fuck out of the guy, without even thinking twice. The black even told him afterwards, that there a some things that you just don't say...and that's one of them.
    Yes i have.

We hate just to hate? Yeah, hating the use of that word is such a bad thing.

By that logic, it's bad to hate car wrecks too.
I can think of several reason why its bad to hate a car wreck. Such as a kidnapper slamming into a barrier after the child was dumped, a drunk driver hitting a tree versus a family in a van, hitting a tree versus driving off a 200 ft cliff, hitting that 76 pinto versus the lambo in the next lane, and several others if you need them.

Ok....let's try again. By your logic, it's good that the word is now being used in a non-offensive way (lol).

So, I guess cancer must be good too, right?

Face it...you're talking in circles, and Al has already pointed that out.

And I think that people understood what you were saying. They simply disagreed. Don't claim, now, that since we've disagreed that your "just misunderstood."

And you're oversimplifying, by a large degree, the concept of ignorance that we're discussing. Your very statement shows that you're not understanding the meaning behind the word. Of course we're not calling someone ignorant just because they are different or grew up differently. You are different from me and grew up differently, I am not calling you ignorant. But, for people who have grown up in the US (regardless of where) in the last 50 years and participated in the legally mandated minimum of education cannot possibly be unaware of the word, its uses and meanings and the history attached to it. It is impossible except perhaps for a very small minority of people who were home schooled by people unqualified to do to so. That fact precludes them from using the excuse of "Well I didn't know that it could be insulting, I have just always used it." The very fact that you are attempting to argue that point is silly.

And this is a true gem. Now that you're basically unable to continue the charade of "Well they can use it and there's nothing wrong with it at all as long as the person using it doesn't mean to offer offense or has no idea that the word is offensive to many" you're going to try and flip the onus of condemnation on the usage of the word and claim that the people that dislike the usage of the word and see that it serves no valuable or valid purpose are, themselves, the true haters and discriminators.

    The fuck? ? ? ?

Then you double down and play the race card and say "...the people speaking out against usage of the word are intolerant towards blacks..." Jesse Jackson would be proud.

LOL. How do you keep any of these things straight? That is logically fallacious.

So Death, is using the work "kike," "wop" or "wetback" acceptable and commendable too? You support the usage of those words and terms on the basis that people might just have grown up using them in their daily vernacular? That's got to be one of the worst arguments around supporting something I've ever heard.
Some cities and towns all across this country used to hang blacks from trees for no other reason than they were black. Since they have always done that or it's their culture or it's how they grew up I can see how it's totally fine for them. And any how disagree with that and find fault with them are haters and discriminators. That's your argument in a nutshell. Whew....it's a strange bit of grey matter you inhabit there DG. But you're welcome to it.
No i didn't claim victim at all. Just staing what seems pretty obvious.

So because we disagree i dont know the meaning of the word? You are calling them ignorant because they word you disapprove of. Thats not how it works. People grow up differently and as such build their own ethic and moral values. Due to that the word that is so bad to you may not be as bad to someone else. Thats not ignorant its cultural differences.

Cultural learning change over time. You forget that it was once acceptable to hang someone from a tree. I for one am not upset those days are gone however acting like time doesnt change anything is absurd.

You can claim your not discriminating by claiming everyone that disagrees with your moral and ethical standards is stupid and ignorant but it would appear that is the very definition of discrimination to me. You dont have to like how someone lives their life but you clearly put yourself above and hold contempt for those that are different or hold different values then you do. Pretty much text book definition.

Once again when did i say it was commendable to use the word? All i have said is that some do not have issues using the words in a sense that it is not insulting and that goes for every insult you can come up with. I've been in construction for 15 years so i've heard everyone of them being used toward people that it would apply to in a joking manner.

So the theory in here that they are always used to insult is a complete bunch of bullshit and i dont believe for a second that everyone here hasn't heard them used before in a way not looking for a fight.

    3. I am saying that the large portion of the people who use that word are "willfully ignorant" of a whole host of matters in and around that word (including, but not limited to, its cultural/historical beginning, its possible effects on themselves/others, perception of it outside of their small niche/community).

People can be, both, ignorant and stupid at the same time and for different reasons. People can be ignorant simply due to lack of education/awareness (and that is, at times, the case) and people can be willfully ignorant (and while choosing to be willfully ignorant can be benign or malignant, it's stupid either way).
But your claiming they are willfully ignorant/ignorant/stupid because they do not live by YOUR standards, morals, and ethics. Thats ridiculous. Thats no different then me calling everyone willfully ignorant/ignoarant/stupid because they didnt learn about cars or join the Corps. Both are completely absurd.

You can call it whatever you want but as i said earlier in the thread i have a good story for this but am not willing to get sitebanned to say it. Some people are more sensitive about it then others and i can respect that but appearntly that is where the respect ends around here. That is painfully obvious.

So, if there's a chance you'd get sitebanned for telling it....doesn't that tell you something?

Are you asking us to respect the use of this word? That's not going to happen for most people, no.

I can agree with the ignorant part. I don't know that I agree with the hateful and racist part. I have known white people that have used the word in the exact same fashion as the majority of black people use it. Do I think that qualifies them as ignorant? Yes. If they understood what the word truly stands for then they wouldn't use it. Do I think it makes them racist or hateful? No.

While I don't totally agree with some of the crazy stuff DG is spewing I agree that social upbringing does play a part. Hell, just look at the topic we have about some school not being able to use a cougar as their mascot as it might offend middle-aged women. Do I think that is on the same level as the N word? No, but it is analogy of how different words can have different meanings to different people. Just like I can agree with you that your wife's best friend calling her a slut is totally different than me calling her a slut when I don't know her (I am not calling your wife a slut by the way). By the same token I think a white guy can say to his friend, "What up my N?" and not mean it in a hurtful or racist way, OR he can say, "I hate Ns." and it is 100% hurtful and racist.
Crazy? I didnt think io stepped into that realm yet.

Yeah iit tells me their are people that are more sensitive about the word then others and its simply not worth posting because i respect that not everyone carries my level of insensitivety.
