I'm not talking about fringe groups like skinheads/KKK. I'm just explaining what I experience here and from what others tell me. The fact that Europe is comprised of so many different countries that have their own languages and identities, they value them highly. From my experience, on the whole if you try your best assimilate, you get accepted.

If you come here to leech and not assimilate, you get rejected. It's even worse for those of other origins that were born in that country, they have absolutely no excuse to be speaking the native tongue with an accent. It's highly insulting to the indigenous and assimilated.

According to some site I found it states that roughly 66% of eligible voters in OR actually voted in the 2008 elections. If your math is accurate that the the vote failed by about 4% that would make the vote 52/48. That would mean 32% of eligible voters voted yes, and 34% are indifferent, or else they would have voted, leaving roughly 34% as truly opposed to gay marriage. Last I checked 34 was less than 50, so yes, a minority still.

Thats what I was thinking as well.

You cant call what happens in America racism or intolerance and then turn the other cheek in Europe and say its an assimilation issue. Now if I were at a sporting event here in the US and said "Act like a fairy in the hereand you'll get treated like one. Act like the other 90% and your ok." Here in the US that is highly discriminatory and outlandishly intolerant, but I guess over in Europe its just considered one persons inability to assimilate to their surroundings.

Intolerance and racism are the same here as they are in Europe or any other country in the world. Excusing because its one party's refusal to assimilate to the surroundings is nothing short of condoning what goes on.

The question didn't concern a majority but a sizable part of the population thus showing that the anti-gay attitudes were more than just some fringe thing. It had nothing to do with a majority.

Intolerance of race is racism. Intoleration of a lack of assimilation is not racism.

Germans will reject a white person who doesn't try to adopt their language and customs. I know this first hand.
