    Which raises a question. Why is Sheriff an elected position? We don't elect police or firefighters.

    Not 100% certain, but the guy I know that is running for sheriff said back when sheriffs first started they had 2 main responsibilities. One, enforce the collection of taxes on the people, and two, run the jail. I guess they were elected for the same reason we elect the tax assessors and judges, which I would guess would be to hopefully prevent corruption, but that isn't working so well now is it?

    Some municipalities Elect Fire and Police chief. Don't they also elect Water District chiefs?
