Oh, yeah, I agree with the message of this billboard 100% more than I believe in the message on religious billboards. That shouldn't be surprising. Is that what you're getting at? I disagree with the preaching, not the message. I don't see how that's hypocritical.

You're right, but the only billboards I like to see are ones that tell me where the hole in the wall BBQ place off of the highway is. The other ones are just

I much prefer to see messages up on information boards or websites that people can find when looking for support, whether religious or not. Cheaper, less of a waste of money, and the potential to reach significantly more people. You can also just direct people to reddit where there are support groups for the religious and non-religious full of nice, supporting, and understanding people.

I don't know how to speak for other atheists (I don't even know if I'm one of them). I have some experience with science as an academic and/or social pursuit, so I can relate those. To the extent that they overlap with atheism, I guess they apply.

I have friends who are theologians, and through them gained a huge respect for the study of theology. Through the things they taught me and the books they loaned me I hope I learned enough about it to have a competent discussion over drinks.

It's possible that some posts in this thread have come across as arrogant or condescending. If any of them were mine, I'd appreciate it if you pointed them out.

That´s great...basically what I´m trying to say is...rise above the ridicule and the bickering and the verbal assaults etc. Let others believe what they want to believe, let them believe in Zeus or the Easter Bunny. Whenever the discussion decomposes in a back and forth of one side trying to put the other side down and out through denigration...none of the sides are better than the other for it.

Your previously stated opinion is that spreading the message of religion, be it a billboard, a tv/radio show, or people going door to door is a bad thing, so wouldn't the same rule apply to the spreading of anti-religion?

I disagree with the preaching, not the message.

Yes, yes I did. Now, that said, I don't think that it would be hypocritical for me to say that one is worse than the other. I think that religion is a harmful thing, so of course I would find what I consider harmful messages more obnoxious than what I consider helpful ones.
