03-06-12, 12:10 PM #223There are plenty of people like that among the religious, but they rarely try to raise their voices over the twatwads like the wbc. A notable exception is abdus salam and a few people on this forum like al, xav, and Sybil. As to why the rest, who are intelligent and well spoken seem fine with letting a bunch of people paint a bad picture of their religion, I don't know.

Re: Atheists get all religious on religion.
I know why some are like that. They take the message of Christ seriously, including the part about humility. They spend their lives trying to be better people. They don't particularly like the screaming blowhards who give their faith a bad name; but since part of that problem is the noise that's created, they don't think that screaming back is helpful.
So they just spend their time caring for the least among us and making the world a more peaceful, happier, place.
Grace is subtle, and it doesn't care if anyone else notices.
That's a bit of a PR problem. None of the Christians I admire seem to care about that. They believe in the "faith, not works" part, but they go out and do the works anyway.
It's really quite something.
Cheers,

Re: Atheists get all religious on religion.
Interesting fact about Christians: most of them don't think they're Jesus.
I get that. I mean, there were probably a few cool perks to being Jesus, but when I read the story it mostly sounded like downsides to me.

03-06-12, 01:39 PM #229Jesus also said that we would be able to do what he did and greater. Also, being like Jesus and therefore Christlike does not mean you are Jesus. It just means you are following his examples and teachings. That is an important distinction.
