Chanting 'USA' at basketball game deemed racist

Yup you read the title right.....I'm curious is there anyone in here that agrees with this? Since when does chanting USA in America warrant an apology and getting banned from events? This is America, your suppose to be able to chant for any country you want without any repercussions.

It all depends on the intention of the chant, not necessarily the content of the chant itself. If this indeed was supposed to be a jab at the predominately Hispanic players on the other team, it absolutely is racist and wrong. If it's not, and they just felt like chanting USA after one American school beat another American school, then the students are just fucking idiots and shouldn't be banned. In short, this isn't much of a story, and I don't care either way.

How is it shocking that people are chanting USA? Even if the other team is full of minorities, chanting USA doesn't mean they are being racist or promoting white supremacy. So dumb.

I really don't care what the intent is, chanting USA in America should have no consequences.

They should've just joined and been like "We're just as American as you"

Someone posted that in the youtube comments, that would have been pretty cool.

I don't really wan't to get into hypotheticals but I'm willing to bet if the Hispanic team won and started chanting "Mexico" they probably wouldn't have been banned from future games nor asked to apologize.....

Dude, intent has everything to do with this. That's the whole point of the damn story. Why bother to post this if you want to completely ignore the point of it? If it was used as an implication that one side is "American" and the other side isn't, which happens to be Hispanic, it is at the very least prejudice. And if you are just chanting USA when there are two American teams playing, there should be consequences for being such a fucking moron. I can't stand stupid people like that.

I can easily see the problem with this...

If this had been country vs country then, ok...no problem.

However these Hispanic kids are American too. So, what's the point of chanting USA? They're basicially saying "We're White, you're Hispanic...and we beat you." Not cool.

That's where your wrong, I understand the story. Chanting USA ONLY expresses pride for a country, it doesn't disrespect another race or country. It's not like they were say F Mexico or something, as I said before they should have just started chanting with them.
