Re: Texas "One State Under God" lisence plates.
I have a few questions and since you're not personally offended at the present situation, and your position seems bursting with common sense, you're the one I want to ask.
Would you have any problem with a Texas plate that says "There is only one God and Mohammed is his prophet" ?
Do you think that, if requested, Texas is likely to issue such a plate?
If they do offer it as an option, do you think a Muslim would feel as uninhibited expressing this sentiment as a Christian expressing theirs?
Cheers,

03-25-12, 01:41 PM #73I know you didn't ask me, but you will get my answer anyway. I am not offended by the many different bumper stickers I see, the license plate holders, or even the clothes people wear spouting their various beliefs, and I wouldn't care if it were on their license plate either.
To quote DG, who was quoting someone else, this is just another example of the pussification of America.

Awesome!
I await your answers.
My queries were directed to Alundil mostly in that I was responding to his post and he seemed to at least make an effort to distinguish between God and a local sports franchise. I'd be interested to hear anyone's answers to those questions.

Frankly I agree it is religious language being produced by the state. Further, specialty plates cost more, and I find it hard to believe that the cost and cost difference accurately describes production of different plate types. It is a business as well as government printed religion in this case.
License plates are simply an ID tag and should not be decorative IMO. They exist to allow quick identification of a vehicle by law enforcement; in this they should be simple, direct and noticeable.
Just my thoughts; a government license should be no more than that.

This i can agree with. The whole thing started as a money grab by the states. And as not to exclude anyone they have allowed those with religious connotations. But unless someone can prove that the state is endorsing a religion as a state religion by doing this, Im not sure there is a case for removing the option. But if tomorrow the states decided there would be no expressive vanity plates of any kind, i would be cool with that too, it just seems simpler to me.
