You're right Kraker, I should be more tolerant of gay bashing lawmakers who use pretzel logic when making important decisions. While I'm at it, I should become more tolerant of racists too.

If any Democratic lawmakers had been complicit in this decision, I would have heaped scorn on them as well.

It's unbelievable that in this day and age it's still permissible to accuse someone of pushing an "aggressive homosexual agenda." It's completely retarded and nonsensical. Just like with civil rights in the 1960's, the South is going to be the region that refuses to move into a new era and has to be dragged into it kicking and screaming the whole way.

I have many friends living in North Carolina. I used to live there myself. It's not all backward-looking. Some parts of NC are among the most progressive in the nation.

But last week when I called up a couple friends to tease them about the no-gay-marriage amendment that had just passed, they were really irate. A common image was of buses, rented by churches, pulling up to polling places and disgorging entire congregations.

I think those people are wrong, and I think that history will not be sympathetic when it looks back on them, but you have to admire that sort of organization and dedication.

Anyway, that's the challenge. Sometimes you win because you're right, but in this case (just like with slavery) you can only win by showing up with more people - voters, soldiers, whatever applies.
