Re: Paul Ryan Hypocrisy
That was the purpose, yes. But why can't we streamline it, rewrite it, and make it better? I mean, do we really need the 18th or 21st Amendment in there anymore? Do we still want the Three-Fifths Compromise left in there? The Electoral College? I'm not saying throw it in the shredder, but it should be rewritten. The only major changes I would like to see are an increase in Representatives and something drastically different done with the Senate. No more of this "2 Senators per state" bullshit.

Re: Paul Ryan Hypocrisy
...because the system allows them to.
I'm pretty sure I've told you my idea a couple times, at least. Proportional representation, increased number of Reps, the Senate should be increased two or three fold and seats allotted based on percentage a party gets on votes, run-off elections, national holiday for voting, mandatory voting, federally-funded elections and no more private donations, etc.
Do I claim this to be a problem-free and magical fix? No, there will be problems like there are in any system of government. Do I think it will allow for a more fair, representative government than what we see today? Abso-fucking-lutely.

Re: Paul Ryan Hypocrisy
We cant get a decision out of 100 people but you think we will out of 300 people?
You think the seats should be allotted by party votes? I like the idea of our votes deciding who gets that seat. Your adding to the whole party conflict with that idea.
National holiday for voting? So your plan is for the entire country to shut down for a process that takes minutes to do? Bad idea. Businesses already can not tell you that you cant go vote. Thats plenty.
Mandatory voting? So you want to remove peoples right to make a decision for what they do? Hell no. Its something that should be a choice.
I can go with no more private donations. If a company wishes to donate it should go to a political fund and distributed evenly among the candidates and anonymous at that.
Other then your last thought i would say your plan is an utter failure.

Re: Paul Ryan Hypocrisy
I picked an arbitrary number. The point is to have political parties represented, too. So, on a ballot, you'd vote for a person for your Rep and a party to represent you in the Senate. Those seats are then allocated proportionally. That gives you a say in the government if your choice for Rep loses. Right now, if you are a liberal in district with a conservative Rep and a state with conservative Senators, you essentially have no representation of your views in Congress. And vice versa. This would correct that.
In my version of the Senate, yes, not in the House. I think those should still be voted on, but by using run-off elections.
Are you fucking serious right now? EVERY other nation has it as a national holiday. It's voting for your government. Or make it a fucking Saturday, I don't care. The point is to maximize the number of people who can vote.
I want large turnouts. The more people involved, the better.
That seems... pointless. Why would a company donate to have it spread out? No, keep private money out. That's what corrupts.
Coming from the guy who thinks the system is perfect the way it is, I'll take that as a vote of confidence.

Re: Paul Ryan Hypocrisy
I never said our system was perfect. I said it works and i also said it has issues but in the end the system isnt whats broken the people in it are. Your approaching this like football is a shitty games because the players on the field suck at it. In fact we have a bunch of underskilled terrel owens running our government. They think they're better then the rest of us, think they deserve more then the rest of us, spend more time looking for their spot light, spend more time worrying about their sponsors then doing the job, and spend more time worrying about their payday then the job.
Instead of looking for a bunch of terrel owens to run for office we should be looking for a bunch of don beebe's to get the job done.
