US embassy attacked.
Lol you are correct sir. I remember when I was in the Gulf War (I'm a Marine), when we captured those Iraqis, we heard (among other equally entertaining stories) that they were spreading rumors within their ranks that we had to murder an immediate family member to complete our training and become Marines. They were also well aware of the USMC's exploits in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, etc. Needless to say they were terrified of us.

Sounds like they'd heard that story of soldiers WAY back in the day who had to kill a puppy they'd raised to prove they could do it, and just modified it for Marines....complete with even more exaggeration lol.
But yeah, Marine's have a certain history. Put Marine's back on security details so we can take advantage of that history. Having a group of Marine's guarding VIPs is gonna make someone hesitate a lot more than seeing private contractors doing the same.

Contracting out military presence doesn't lessen the size of the government, or at least not the size of the government's budget. Private contractors cost more over the long run than regular military. The only place it's cheaper is in the short-term because you're not paying the training costs of that particular person. As Hub states though, contractors make significantly more than regular military personnel.
I just don't see how having the government hire private citizens to fight is lessening the size of the government when the bill ends up being higher.
