Seriously though, you are saying that Americans are not smart enough to figure out a problem of scale? We, the inventors of mass education and mass production can't figure out how to get this done right?

The average American couldn't, and wouldn't, invent things like mass education or mass production. Most Americans (and people, for that matter) are short-sighted, selfish and stupid. Human society is where it is because the occasional enlightened genius is able to pull the rest of the masses forward, a few inches.
