    A Proportional Electoral College

What if we divided electoral votes proportionately? If Obama takes 51% of the vote in Ohio he takes 9 electoral votes (Or even 9.1 if you want to go into decimals). It's fairer representation that makes candidates actually care about non-battleground states, plus it gives 3rd party candidates a shot at a few electoral votes.

By the way, didn't we used to call them "swing states" rather than "battleground states?" Swings are so much nicer than battles.

Then you might as well elect by popular vote, which I'm in favor of.

No, it's still not quite popular votes, because it still gives a simple breakdown of how each state ends up voting. Eliminate the electoral college and states don't matter at all. I'm not for that.

Ohio: 9 for Obama, 8 for Romney, and 1 for Gary Johnson just seems more representative than just a general count of the swathes of the public.

No thanks to a proportional electoral college. I'd rather scrap it altogether and go with popular vote. I would, however, like to see our voting system replace the first-past-the-post system with proportional representation. That's where third parties will really be able to start building a name for themselves and making a difference on a national level.
