Re: Karl Rove meltdown on Fox News
If anyone noticed this one asshole caused almost every major network to second guess their decision plus even made mitt Romney hold up giving his consession speech.
At least I know there is a special place in hell for this guy.
Plus hit political clout is almost certainly gone.

Re: Karl Rove meltdown on Fox News
Actually he accepted the call, and said so multiple times. He just questioned how soon when there were 900+ voted between the candidates with over 700k votes left to count. And who can blame him after what he went through in 2004?
I think the coverage as it was was basically Rove arguing with the entire Fox news staff about the ethics of calling things so fast like that.

Re: Karl Rove meltdown on Fox News
Please. He refused to accept that Ohio was lost and kept trying to believe that Romney had a chance in Ohio and was babbling about Republican numbers still coming in but ignoring the massive number of Democratic votes still out there. He didn't know what he was talking about, the people who called it knew what they were doing. Rove just could not believe or accept the reality of the situation and that the election was over so quick. He eventually came to terms with reality, but it took a little while.

Re: Karl Rove meltdown on Fox News
Yeah.
But I didn't think it rose to the level of pants-shitting.
It was close, with Obama ahead by approx 1000 votes, and there were lots of places that hadn't reported yet. The 1000 votes weren't the significant part - it was that the balance of unreported votes would likely also lean for Obama. So the (good) statistical model they were using knew it was game-over.
What I saw wasn't Rove melting down or shitting his pants.
I don't think he was necessarily wrong either. Uncounted votes are uncounted. Miracles happen. Only a fool would have bet money on a Romney win, but that doesn't mean it was impossible.
What I saw was Rove desperately trying to maintain the fiction.
A campaign like this monitors early returns and moves get-out-the-vote people in real time. They're not just targeting close districts in the months, weeks, and days before the vote. They're moving around assets as the day continues. That's the scary thing about having really good data ahead of time. The entire election can come down to one state, and the entire state can come down to one county - and if I know that a huge block of my opponent's voters will vote after work then I can try to cause a huge traffic jam. I can send my canvas crew there to go door-to-door, or offer rides to seniors who don't have any way to get to the polls and would rather not stand in line because they might have to piss at any moment.
Rove needed people to believe that it wasn't over in order for there to be any chance of a come-back at all.
But that Megan Kelly line was priceless.

Re: Karl Rove meltdown on Fox News
How about understanding the context of the comment before laying down the smack?
"Is this just math you do as a republican to make yourself feel better, or is this real" is what Megan Kelly asked Karl Rove, to his face, on the air.
An entire room of Fox election-math experts had repeatedly said "it's over", and Karl wouldn't let it go. Megan-freaking-Kelly looked Karl Rove in the eye and said "Is this real? Are you lying to us? Are you lying to yourself? I'm not sure about this whole "Math" thing Karl, but apparently there are some of these Math people who disagree."
I interpreted SD's comment as a reference to Rove (and associates), not to all republicans generally.

Re: Karl Rove meltdown on Fox News
It seems my brain is out-of-synch with the site today.
I was trying to provide context, not just get up-in-your-grill.
Soviet watched it, but not the original. He saw the vid as excerpted on The Daily Show. I recognized the reference. I wasn't sure you had.
Maybe what's really going on is that I wanted to play games Friday and Saturday night but had social commitments that I didn't want to keep. Last night I noticed that the TPG server I wanted to be on was rocking, and I had to have boring conversation instead.
I had de-caf coffee and a slice of pie. I wanted a six-pack of beer and a frag-fest.
Damnit.
Cheers,
