By the way this looks like a real switcheroo, considering that Leahy originally was bragging about how this bill would protect individual privacy, and now it does exactly the opposite.

While there is no doubt in my mind that this law is wrong, I can't go so far as to say it is unconstitutional. I would like to believe it is, but privacy rights have always been rather murky when it comes to the courts. After all, the Patriot Act got pushed through and wasn't unconstitutional, so I have my doubts that this would be declared so.

That being said, I hope this bill dies a quick, fiery death long before the courts would have to come into the picture.

Your freedoms will be taken from you one at a time. Nazi Germany did the same thing to the Jews. One step at a time they stripped them of their freedom. Only this time it will be slow and methodical. They will say it's for your protection from the awful terrorists while never mentioning it was them who created the terrorists in the first place and anyone who does will be beat down and suppressed and labeled terrorists themselves. Oh wait that kind of already happened.
