    Texas movie theater shooting

    This one ended differently.

Edit: Maybe I shouldn't have posted this, I think most of us are pretty sick of having this gun debate, carry on.

Two dead, 8 wounded in gunfire near NY's Empire State Building | Reuters

This is what will happen if everyone gets armed.

Again I ask, why do these tragedies occur with much more frequency here than in other civilized countries.

Why do you think it does?

The San Antonio shooting was typical for the south side. Nothing but thugs around that area. It's a bunch of media hype, really not much of a story but because he chased the guy to a theater it automatically gets big coverage.

I don't disagree with that at all. 300 million people that are able to think freely creates a very unstable environment no doubt. Then mix in all of the external stimuli, and it gets even worse. That is one of the main reasons I feel socialist ideals won't go over well here because most in the society put themselves ahead of the society.

What happens? 2 dead instead of 27? Good call...

Thanks to a crazy person getting their hands on a gun: 2 dead.

Thanks to law enforcement having guns to stop the crazy person: 2 dead.

    Re: Texas movie theater shooting

I just think too many people are moving away from core values that were very important in the past, and seem to be falling to the wayside now. Family, Community, Patriotism, Responsibility...sure they all still exist in some format...but families aren't as close, communities function as many separate groups instead of a whole, people don't give a shit about what's better for the country/people of the country as a whole, just themselves, and nobody wants to own up and take responsibility for anything. All of this leads to unstable households/children that have no care for anyone but themselves and do not have the ability to take personal responsibility for their actions. This is not a plug for marriage...it's a plug for thinking for more than 10 seconds about what type of life the kid you might be bringing into the world will have before you do so. I was with my wife for 5 years before we got married...and if I hadn't joined the military we may never have gotten married.

I also think the media is part of the problem, when they should be part of the solution. Whatever stance they trot out on the TV is the stance that the majority of the nation is going to take on it, whether it's right or not...instead of doing research and coming out with a good, sound solution to things, they just follow whatever the "party line" is (left or right wing depending on the station). By that same measure, they give tons of publicity to acts of violence, theft, high speed chases and other bad/illegal things, and then wonder why more and more people are doing those things.

    TLR

We do a shitty job of raising our children, and the national interest has shifted to sensationalism instead of rationality.
