Re: Pay Raises.
Not defending this, but he did say the freeze would end this spring a while back.
Also congress gets automatic raises every year. He froze them for 2 years to save money and is now releasing the freeze. So he's not really giving a pay raise. Also this affects all government workers not just the ones at the top that are listed.

Re: Pay Raises.
Sweet the people responsible for bringing our country near the brink of bankruptcy get automatic raises, while the rest of us have to deal with losing our home, diminishing wages and high unemployment.

As a Federal employee, I am happy that our pay freeze is over. Two years is a long time to go without a raise despite working my tail off. But I don't understand why the elected guys need one. They have failed to do their job and most are independently wealthy anyways.

Re: Pay Raises.
I agree 2 years is a long time to go without a raise. I think the average American would also agree with this, however the average American has seen a drop of 8% in their incomes over the last few years. So no raises for them, in fact they are seeing there wages diminish considerably, so why should federal employees receive a raise when the rest of the working class is suffering? Never mind the fact that these federal raises are being paid by taxes on the already diminishing wages of the average American.

I fully admit that many federal workers are overpayed. But in my field (IT) wages have gone up, not down. Going back to private industry is not an option for me since I am assigned overseas. If I was stateside, I would have already done it. But more to your point, I don't see how what other people are doing or not doing is relative to what anyone else is doing. If anyone works hard at any job over a long period of time, they are very likely to get a raise. Government workers should not be an exception.

Re: Pay Raises.
Edit: And I don't mean for my post to sound rude or anything. I do believe you are working hard and I really do think you deserve a raise, but they're a lot of hardworking people that also deserve raises yet they're taking pay cuts. So why should we use taxpayer money to give raises to federal employees when the taxpayers themselves are taking pay cuts? Really I don't see the logic in it, and I'm looking for someone to explain why these pay raises are appropriate at a time like this.

It's not an automatic raise. It's an end to the pay freeze. I now will actually get the raise I qualified for. As opposed to in the past when no matter what I did there would be no raises for me.
