How many guns do you need?

If he keeps getting elected then perhaps people are fed up with the system as it stands? Here's a guy that bucks that system. And the people love him for it.

I heard this guy built a tent "jail" out in the middle of the desert, with no air conditioning, and only enough shade and water to keep them alive. It had barbed wire all around it and generally looked like a concentration camp. Of course, he was sued by civil rights activists and everyone under the sun for civil liberties violations.

His only defense was that if our soldiers could be deployed half a world away and live in the exact same conditions to fight for our freedoms, then surely those being held until their court date could endure a few months of it. I'm not sure of the outcome but I think he won.

The ACLU brought suit against him, alleging that "Arpaio routinely abused pre-trial detainees at Maricopa County Jail by feeding them moldy bread, rotten fruit and other contaminated food, housing them in cells so hot as to endanger their health, denying them care for serious medical and mental health needs and keeping them packed as tightly as sardines in holding cells for days at a time during intake."

And I'm not talking about people that're convicted. As far as I'm concerned they lose nearly all their rights the second that happens. This is happening to pre-trial detainees though. And last I checked, "innocent until proven guilty" was still pretty important to this country.

From what little I found on that particular incident, they've lost the suits. I didn't see anything alluding to their being forced to stop the practices, but the County has apparently had to pay out millions from those suits.

What if a US District Court rules that conditions in your jail are grossly inadequate, unconstitutional, and jeopardize the health and safety of prisoners?

"Federal Judge Neil V. Wake ruled in 2008, and again in 2010, that the Maricopa County jails violated the constitutional rights of inmates in medical and other care related issues. This ruling was a result of a lawsuit brought by the ACLU."

That's from right before my previous quote. So yeah, it must be true, considering a judge thought there was enough evidence.
