Thread: How many guns do you need?

The more I think of it, the more I seem to weigh the numbers 5 and 10.

If you are a billionaire with loads of cash flow, is 5 cars enough? How many do they have? I would think 10 would be more than sufficient for any activity/use. Jay Leno, I understand, loves cars, how many does he have?

How many houses does Micheal Jordan have? Hell, for that matter, how many basketballs does he own?

Same for cats. If you know someone with 5 cats, it seems a bit much, but 10?

How bout computers? I have 3 three (including my tablet), but 10?

Dogs? 10?
Cable modems? 10?
FB accounts ( I have 2) but 10?
PC keyboards ( I have 3 or 4) , but 10?
Children? 5 seems like too many to me, but 10? (Though I am amicable to the practice )
Bottle of alcohol?
Marijuana plants?
Cartons of cigarettes?
Tacos?
Shoes?
Chia-pets?
Houseplants?




My question is not about what you should have a right to, but what you consider a little overboard, if not extreme. Again, as a personal issue, not professional, not as a collector or as a member of a particular religion.

And I'm not counting separate members of a household. Only individual ownership. A spouse's firearm is theirs, not yours.

The only item I would consider 10 of as not being really really weird would be clothes, DVDs, CD's/albums/songs, video games and bottles of beer. Hell, I don't even need 10 cans of chicken noodle soup to last a winter. Most items, it seems to me, start to contain an element mental impairment over 5.

I have friends that have more firearms than I care to process. But around the number 5, if not 10, I would be concerned about their outlook on life.

So far, it does not seem that anyone that has responded to this thread has more than 10, so is this a fair metric?

Um, Partyball has more than 10, and Nuckle has not responded. When I have the means I will have more than 10. Even look at bottle of alcohol. Sometimes you want whiskey, others vodka, and tequila, and rum. That doesn't even take into account different flavors of said liquors, or varieties. I have friends that have 20+ bottles of liquor, and I don't blink an eye. I also have friends with 20+ firearms, and I just look on in envy.

Lol this is amazing to me.... One day I may get a shotgun for skeet shooting and a range rifle but that's it...

I have about 10 screw drivers, and the only reason that number is low is because I have handy screw driver that can change its bit.

I'll take your word for someone else (/sarcasm ) but I dont' see anywhere in this thread Partyball stating that fact.

And do you also have 10 hammers, 10 chainsaws, 10 shovels? 10 lawn mowers, 10 weed wackers? A screwdriver has many uses, only one of which is to turn screws. It can be used as leverage, as a chisel, as a screwdriver and as a pick.
A weapon only has one use. How many weapons do you have? I have 4 total. Maybe that's all i need, but how many single instruments of destruction does the average person require, or even, need?

Weapons do have multiple uses though: self-defense, hunting, sporting (see shooting range competitions), etc.

Even then, if you're hunting deer, say, if there's a lot of foliage, you use a different rifle that can punch through that. If there's lots of clear spaces, you use another one.

I would disagree. A weapon only has one purpose; to injure or destroy it's target.

A 22LR isn't going to do well against a deer or an elk. But it does do well against squirrels. Same for the opposite. A 7mm mag isn't going to do well for squirrel hunting. Each caliber was made for a specific reason. If you shoot coyotes or medium game, neither of those does well. Now, you need a 3rd. Maybe you shoot at ground hogs at less than 100 yards and a 17HMR works for you. They then get smart and you now need to shoot them at 300 yards with a 22-250. Some people have reasons to have many guns. I have 75+. They are all for a specific purpose. Some are used for target at 25 yards. Others are for target at 1000 yards. Some are used for field while others are used for skeet and sporting clays. You want to use the correct tool for the job. Just like you wouldn't want to use a crescent wrench as a hammer.
