Re: SCOTUS decides on Prop 8 :D
Agreed. I'm only here to help interpret things the way I've understood them. But my understanding is admittedly limited, even though I bet I have more working knowledge of the Bible than any two people here. I'm not saying that to sound arrogant, but I also know my audience. And even I have 'ah-ha' moments when I read something for the 5843685448th time.
Its not unlike science. Sometimes the answer can stare you in the face for so long you feel like a fool when you finally "see it".
But I always try to have these kinds of conversations with healthy dose of humility. My faith is not for everyone, though I wish is was. But you guys are big boys who can make your own choices about how you choose to see things. In all things, I will support that right to have that choice. Even if it means you choose a different lifestyle, political party, world view, or simply a different way to see the same things.

What do you mean it is zero? Under my plan, when I had to go to the ER and stay 2 days in the hospital, I paid $250 and the insurance company paid the other $6k.
Now let's say it was my girlfriend, and she was unemployed and did not have my benefits. What do you think she would pay? Oh, lets not forget that I work for the biggest Pharmacy in America and get free perscriptions. Does she get that? No, because we are not married.

Not without consequence. Not if you want to obtain credit, which can allow you to finance a home or car (at very least without paying outrageous interest rates). Credit can even help you get a job if you need government clearance, or even in banking if you have access to large sums of money.
Your logic may be true when talking about idiots that decide not to pay because the think they can get away with it. Those same idiots will never get a new car with $0 down or 0% APR. They will pay tens of thousands more for their home during the life of the loan because they have a much higher rate. The will have trouble trying to get a loan to start up a business if the bank sees they just choose not to pay things like a $250 hospital bill.
But I was referring to the fact that my insurance is great, and once I get married, so would hers. We would probably save around $1500/year. It isnt a ton, but it would pay the mortgage for a month. A hospital stay would cost us thousands on her plan.
My point being, many people.would receive superior medical benefits if they were married. At very least, the cost both parties pay out of pocket would be greatly reduced, you share a deductible, etc.

You are missing the point. It is about married couples paying LESS than single individuals. If you are a scum bag and dont pay your bills or if you are poor and cannot afford to pay them, then maybe if you were married and under the benefits of your spouse, the bills wouldnt be unpayable.
Look, bottom line is that there are many reasons marriage can benefit 2 persons over both being single. If you just want to throw in hypothetical "what ifs", then you shouldnt be discussing this.
If the people dont care about their credit, they pribably dont care about a lot of stuff like paying of credit cards, paying their utilities, paying taxes...
Sure, there are lots of people like that, but they are not the hard working people that want to do right, pay bills, and use benefits and follow a fair system filled with opportunities if you are employed and eligible for benefits, let alone taking advantage of the tax benefits.
